SOURCE: My five year old Toshiba 57H84 rear projection TV

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

SOURCE: vertical lines showning on 57H84 have been told itis the bulbs need to be clean. If you think the same p lease tell me where and ho to look and cleanPlease.

You may have one of two issues here--noisy lines when set first comes on left to right---they clear up after 10-15 minutes.

Other possible is a convergence problem--colored lines, 3 d looking etc--see typical photos attached---Problem does not sound like a cleaning issue--

let me know which issue you seem to have with a comment here.

Turn off, disconnect power for a couple of hours and try it again.

If vertical lines still there google for your model number and vertical lines. If it is an LCD version set then youtube search for your model number and repair. Sometimes it takes a baseball bat!!!!

Bad connection on one of the boards . More than likely t-con board , if not that then may be moisture on the main board around the chip , processor . Give it a wipe

Picture flutters vertically

Many of these sets (57H84 etc) had a problem with the "Hyper" board.

It is a circuit in the set that processes all signal from the tuners, and all inputs.

Most of the time this problem shows up when the set is first turned on and after several minutes the picture goes to normal----the delay if you have this problem slowly gets longer and longer.

The hyper board is NO LONGER AVAILABLE-and the only way to correct it is remove it and send it out for rebuild.

There are about a dozen very small "surface mounted filter caps" on the board that dry out and cause the problem.

2 people with this problem were able to remove the board and replace all the tiny caps but IT IS NOT EASY AND NOT A TASK for a do it yourself person unless you have some real skill.

The problem usually looks like noise lines from left to right across the whole or part of the screen---if it started gradually---it is a bad Hyper board.

Let me know by responding with a comment if you need help or advise.
