Question about Cisco 7940 IP Phone

Testing a Cisco 7940G phone

We have a 7940G phone to fix and we don't have the Cisco equipment to test it on.  Is there a way that we can test it on another computer source (such as our own ethernet) or a single line port?  We are just trying to repair and test the phone.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the issue you are trying to fix? I do not have any Cisco products other than IP phones and I have been able to fix many "broken" phones.

Heidi the only way you can test this telephone will be on a network that has cisco callmanager software installed.

I cant test my 7941g because i keep getting a small bullseye on the bottom left corner of the screen

Your phone is trying to connect to a TFTP server address to download a firmware and/or config file update. You need to figure out what IP address it is trying to connect to (You may have to use wireshark or another packet sniffer to determine this).

Once you know the IP it is trying to connect to, you'll need to set up a small network with a TFTP server running on that same address, and feed the phone a firmware update and/or config file. It will likely not fully boot unless it gets a firmware update.

I have upgraded my 3550 to a 3560v2 48portPOE and can not get my cisco 7940G to power up. The switchport is green but when I look at the power inline log it does not see the phone or that it is a POE...

Are you sure it is a PoE model? The 3650v2 comes in both a PoE and non PoE model.

PoE models: 3560V2-24PS, 3560V2-48PS
non-PoE models: 3560V2-24TS, 3560V2-48TS

This happens when you IP phone communicated with the Voice vlan with the IP address of data vlan.

When I plug the 7941 cisco phone up to our network on a POE switch, it responds with the message "Ethernet Disconnected", but when we plug another Cisco 7941 phone to the same line it works perfectly... We...

I would check your duplex settings. Often, if you hard code the duplex settings or have a mis-match; one end may not talk properly. Also, have you tested the wiring? Do you know the ethernet is okay for sure? TechRx, Inc. -

7945g can't use power supply of 7940

You'll need to buy a another power supply unless you have power over Ethernet. The power supply for 7940G/7960G is CP-PWR-CUBE and for 7941G/7945G you'll need a CP-PWR-CUBE-3. Yes, I know, I just got one of those and it's a pain to configure it, but I got it working... ;-)

P.S. If you haven't notice, you will be dealing with a whole different thing, the configuration/settings will ALL (except for the dialplan file) different from the 7940G... Good Luck ;-)
