Duplex is selected on the print driver. Or the driver is using machine defaults, in that case the duplex needs to be set to off in the printer menu.

HOW DO I TURN OFF THE SLEEP MODE ON MY PRINTER BROTHER MFC 7420

Setting the Sleep Time reduces power consumption by turning off the fuser inside the MFC while it is idle. You can choose how long the MFC is idle (from 00 to 99 minutes) before it goes into sleep mode. The timer is automatically reset when the MFC receives a Fax or PC data or makes a copy. The factory setting is 05 minutes.
To turn Sleep Mode off press Menu/Set, 1, 6, 2. Then use the dial pad to enter the length of time the MFC is idle before it goes into sleep mode, in this case 00 so it wouldn't go to Sleep mode at all. Press Stop/Exit.

To adjust your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode setting, please follow these steps:

1. Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 7 (Sleep Mode).

2. Use the dial pad to enter the amount of time the fax machine is idle before Sleep Mode is initiated (00 to 99 minutes).

3. Press the MENU/SET key to confirm your choice.

4. Press the STOP/EXIT key to exit the menu.

NOTE: If you frequently print, copy, or fax, set the idle time long

  2. Enter the system password using the numeric keypad, then select [Enter] on the Touch Screen. The default password is 1111.

To cancel the operation, select [Cancel]. If you are experiencing problems with your password or have forgotten your password, contact your administrator.

  4. Select the [More] button.
  5. Select the [Power Saver Administration] button.
  6. Select the [Set Duration Times] button.
  7. To adjust the 'From Standby Mode to Low Power Mode' time-out, select that box so it turns black then enter a new time using the numeric keypad on the Control Panel. The Standby to Low Power may be set between 1 - 120 minutes.
