Question about Black & Decker String Trimmer Cordless 12" 18V

Open Question

Low power I've charged my black and decker cordless 12V trimmer and it seems to have little power to do anything. I'm guessing it has something to do with the motor? I've charged it for an extended period and get the same results, it spins, but you can tell it's extremly slow, and not nearly good enough to trim anything. Is it worth fixing/fix it myself, the whole thing was 50 bucks..

It sounds like a defective switch (part number 243614-00). You can order it at: http://www.blackanddecker.com/CustomerCenter/Parts.aspx for about $5 plus shipping.

SOURCE: Black & Decker gh1000 trimmer head not spinning

The same thing happened to me. You either have a ruined belt pulley, or, hopefully, the belt burned out. Belts are easy to find online, but the housing is tricky to remove - see other posts.

I finally got it the plastic housing apart on my trimmer (there is one screw hidden under the label), only to find a total meltdown. The plastic pulley is ruined, and the only way to get it replaced is to buy a new motor (the most expensive part).

If your trimmer is no longer under warranty, then you can get a refurbished gh1000 for the price a new motor unit.

SOURCE: Motor spins, shaft does not...

I'm in a similar situation with my GH1000, except that it was a part that comes with whole motor assembly. I could sell you the shaft assembly of my trimmer, or I'll buy your motor assembly. Yes?

battery is probably dead... it may read fully charged but it cannot support the "load"... if you're only going to use something of that nature once. you really don't need it.

BLACK AND DECKER CORDLESS POWER PACK FOR 12 VDC SLA BATTERY #243215 for a Grass Hog Cordless Trimmer

Sorry, but I haven't solved any problem. I'm still waiting on the experts to solve my problem from June 16 on my trimmer not operating even with new fully charged battery. As for your replacement, I would suggest retail stores that sell trimmers, such as Home Depot, Lowes, Ace hardware stores or maybe B&D website.

I have a black & decker pivot plus that will not charge. How do I know if I need a battery or if I need a charger?

Batteries are only good for about a year, if they are older than that, take them back to the store and see if they are guaranteed at all, (all Ryobi tools and batteries have a date code on them, and they are all guaranteed for 2 years, a little plug for Ryobi,) that is all I buy now days, they work great. So, to check your charger, you will need a volt meter set on 12 or 20 v dc, and see if the charger is putting out, if not, then, the cost of a new ryobi might be the same as the fix for the black and decker. That is if you use the thing, we use our cordless tools every day and charge them every night, hope this helps.

I am a bit upset. I purchase a Black and Decker Trimmer and you guys want to charge me almost 10$ to give me a little bit of advise on a problem. Than I find in that email that if I have fixed the problem you want me to email you and tell you how I did it. FOR FREE. Well I did fix it. If you would like to know how mail me 10$. Only fair. Battery replacement for unit

The unit itself is obsolete.
However....
Open the unit up (six cross-head screws). Inside you'll find a 12V 5.0AH rechargeable battery, like the kind used in many home alarm systems.
You can get a replacement at most battery stores (they'll even pre-charge it for you). Somewhere around $20, I guess.
