I just want to add, that programs like these tell you its going to make your PC faster, they do. They make your PC healthier in my opinion. Making it faster is increasing the memory, uninstalling programs you do not use, clearing the prefetch out,etc...

I just wanted to let you know, so you don't keep wasting your money.

Yes, transferring data files from your expansion drive into the computer or from the computer into the expansion drive can make your computer run slowly.
If it's music and/or movies you are transferring back and forth it's simply because the computer is using most of the processor speed and memory to do it. That's why when another program or the internet is opened your computer will appear to run slowly.
If it's just slow in recognising the contents of your expansion drive it may be due to the age of your computer.
Alternatively it may be that your computer and/or expansion drive is fragmented and has registry errors. Both of these will cause - can cause - your computer to appear slow to load.
You can defragment your hard drive from within the computer. Using Windows XP, open 'my computer' andright click on the 'C drive icon' icon and then choose TOOLS. Open the defragmenting software and let it defrag the hard drive.
To fix registry faults search for and download some free software called free Windows registry repair.
When downloaded, run the registry fixer by opening the program and click on 'scan'. Wait until the scan is complete and click on 'fix'. Job done...

If your laptop is running slow and applications are taking a long time to load...

If your laptop is running slow and applications are taking a long time to load here are some tips that may help you solve your problem. Laptop computers are not much different than desktop PCs. They both require maintenance to keep them preforming the way they should.

First of all of if this is a recent problem that started after you’ve installed or uninstalled a program. Use your restore feature and go back to a previous state when you know your computer ran good. You will also want to update your antivirus software and run a full scan, the same with your spyware software.
Be sure to update the definitions on each program before you run your scans. You want to make sure your computer is free from any viruses or spyware as these will really slow your laptop down.

Unless you have a hardware problem like not enough memory or your hard drive is going bad.The biggest reason for laptops running slow is because of a corrupt registry. Especially if you are running Windows Vista. You may have found a lot of incompatible programs or software, and had to uninstall them. They leave behind invalid registry keys and orphaned entries.
You need to clean these out.
Your Windows registry is like a large database, all your software has to reference it when it loads to check for the correct settings. The same as when your computer starts up or shuts down. Your registry is a heart of your system. Any corrupt or damaged, registry entries will really slow down your operations.

Cleaning and maintaining your Windows registry is very important. It’s sort of like giving your computer a tuneup. Windows does not have a tool built in for you to do this with. So you’ll need to download a third-party software program for registry repair and cleaning.

You can edit and repair your registry manually, but it’s not recommended. Even experienced computer technicians have a hard time doing this. They all use software. Besides a few delete or alter the wrong file your computer may become unusable. Software that is made for registry repair is much safer and efficient. With a click of your mouse you can scan your entire computer in a couple of minutes. You can also make a backup and restore point before you make any changes just to be safe.

Depending on how much you use your laptop. You should preform weekly registry maintenance, of course, this applies to any other computer you own to. If you follow the tips above your laptop should not be running slow anymore.
The only other thing I can think of is if you upgraded your operating system to a newer version of Windows like Vista you may not have enough memory now. Memory upgrades have really come down in price lately, and are fairly easy to replace in a laptop.

Tip #2: Defrag your Computer--The faster your computer can find files the quicker it can shutdown. Organize your hard drive by performing a defragmentation.
Here is how:
1. Open the Start Menu
2. Click on My Computer
3. Right Click your C: drive or your hard drive image.

Why is my OS is very very slow working???

Here's a few tips you can try to fix your slow startup problem. First of all you want to disable any programs that are in the startup menu that you do not absolutely need. There is no sense in waiting for programs to load that you don't use on a regular basis. Or if you are not sure which one is slowing your startup. You can disable them one at a time.

If that did not help, you can disable your Windows sidebar. You'll also want to remove any icons from your desktop that you do not absolutely need. The same goes for your task bar and quick start menu. All of these will slow down your boot time.

Check to make sure your anti virus program is not scanning at startup. Some programs are set to scan. When windows boots, by default. You will also want to do a full anti virus scan to make sure you don't have a worm or any other type of virus that is working in the background slowing your operations down.

The biggest reason for a slow boot time is a corrupt or damaged Registry. The registry will become corrupted from installing and uninstalling programs. Perhaps you have loaded programs onto your new Vista computer and were not compatible and then uninstall them. They leave behind files, which Windows tries to reference on startup. Since they are no longer on your computer. Your system goes through a long search trying to find them. You need to clean and optimize your Windows registry to eliminate any bad or orphaned files.

You can do this manually if you are an experienced computer technician. It is not recommended for most users. Windows does not have a built-in tool for repairing, cleaning, or optimizing your registry. You will need to download and run a third-party registry repair program to do this.

A good piece of software that will do this for you with a click of the mouse is a wise investment for any computer. You will have it for years to come, and can schedule it to do weekly maintenance. This will keep your PC fully optimize and running fast. It's like giving your computer a tuneup.

I just purchased the dell inspiron mini and it runs very slow. It takes about 5 minutes to completely start up and using Facebook seems to load it down and creep along. Is there something I can do to...

If you purchased this computer new ... return it and have the retailer make it right. If this is a previouisly owned computer, it might be worth the $75.00 to have the big box store take a look at it.

It is running so slow!! It pauses and screen fades to light color! I cannont do my work!! Help!!

This could be for a couple of reasons, 1) you have a virus causing your laptop to crash or 2) you have a faulty Hard Drive.

Try downloading and running Hit Man Pro (an anti-virus software) that should clean up any viruses you have, download it here:<ype=dl_dlnow&pid=11754089&mfgId=6302975&merId=6302975&pguid=CyZLHAoOYI4AAAxmYBAAAABD&

Run the scan and remove and viruses it finds and reboot the computer...see if this makes any difference, if not, try booting up in the recovery partition and repairing Windows.

Let me know if this helps

My laptop running slow and net browsing very slow my configeration windows7 original ,320 gb HD,3GB memorry

There are several reason for the computer to be running slow for the start please try restarting the computer to safe mode with networking (Steps given below) and check if your browsing speed is better. If your internet browsing speed not better in safe mode with networking then you need to contact your ISP to complain about slow speed.

If it is working fine in safe mode, then some of the software (example: Antivirus / Internet Security / Firewall) is slowing down your computer. Please try removing it. Also try reducing the color scheme, use a non aero theme and see if your comptuer is working fine. If so your processor is not able to take the load of windows 7 visual effects aswell as other programs running in the background at the same time

How to make my pc faster

1 . Clean up your desktop icons. Having too many icons on your desktop slows down your computer's operational speed. Consider cleaning them up to keep only what you need on your desktop.

2 . Remove unnecessary start-up entries. These are programs that start when you turn on your computer, and it takes time for them to load. Programs such as lime wire, Msn, and quick time helper are common culprits.

3 . Run a virus-scan. If you do not have any virus protection software, Then you can download it from the internet

4 . Un install any programs you don't use in Control Panel. Trial software and other junk clogs up your computer and makes it run slowly.

5 . Do a registry scan and repair. Using cleaner of your choice, clean and repair the Windows registry to make your computer run smoother.

6 . Conduct an ad-ware scan. Ad-ware is similar to spy ware and is just as bad. You can also download it from the internet

8 . Upgrade your computer's hardware. The most common upgrade is an upgrade in RAM, but you can also upgrade your graphics card or processor to make your computer run faster.

9 . Make sure all your hardware drivers are up to date. Do this by visiting the manufacturer's websites to download the latest versions.

10 . Turn off unnecessary visual effects such as Vista's Aero effect, all of which slow down your system. Skinning programs such as Windows Blinds also slow down your system.

11 . If all else fails, re-format your computer and install windows again to start off will a clean system with no junk.

12 . De fragment your hard-drives. When your hard drive is reading your files, a little head drops onto to a spinning disk to read the information to load a file. If the file is split up between multiple parts of the hard drive, it takes longer to open each file. Thus, De fragmenting frequently will make every-day activity quicker on your computer.

Hope the above information will help you.
