You need to connect the "Audio/Digital Audio Out" of the TV or Cable box to the "Audio Input" of your home theater receiver.

How to hock up surround sound to tv

I'm sorry that the solution has to be so general, but there are not sufficient details in the problem to give the exact answer :(

If the television has an audio output, which would have a red and white hole and say out(put), you would connect the red and white audio cables to the home theater in the corresponding red and white input a/v holes

If you are connecting all of your devices to the home theater for picture and audio, you are connecting from the outputs of all of your devices into the corresponding inputs of your home theater, and then connecting one hdmi cable from the output of your home theater into one of the hdmi inputs of your television.

You can also choose to connect your devices to your television just for video (so hdmi cable or yellow cable or red, green, blue cable to the television's inputs) and to the home theater for sound (another hdmi cable from your device to your home theater or white and red audio a/v cables from your devices to your home theater).

Can i connect dmp-bd871 to a home theater system

It will depend on your home theater system and TV. If your system accepts HDMI in from other devices and HDMI out to the TV, connect an HDMI cable from the blue-ray player to an HDMI input on home theater system. Then connect another HDMI cable between the home theater system and the TV. This will provide the best video and audio experience.

Another option is connect the HDMI cable from the Blue-ray player to the TV. Connect the audio output of the TV to the home theater system. (This will depend on the TV as well as the home theater system. Some TVs have digital audio outputs; others have analog outputs. If your home theater system doesn't have the same input as the TV's output, you would need a converter as well as the digital and analog audio cables. This is an example of one for digital to analog: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4907 .)

If you do not want to get the best picture from the Blue-ray player and your home theater system has analog audio inputs, you can connect the composite video out to the TV. Then connect the audio outputs from the player to your home theater system. (This means only an SD picture will be provided to your TV.)

Panasonic has the manual for the DMP-BD871 here: service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMPBD871-MUL.PDF .

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the other devices in your entertainment system or their inputs/outputs. Then I can add specific information for your system and any tips for setting up the system.

HOW DO YOU GET TV AUDIO TO MY HOME THEATER?

For analog audio output use the L (White) and R (Red) RCA/Phono coax jacks to output to your Home Theater. Other option is to use the headphone jack wired to the home theater, however use of this will switch off any sound coming from the TV.

If the Home Theater supports digital inputs, use one of these connectors, Orange/Black RCA jacks, Toslink (Optical), HDMI. For nice pictures do a search for images in google/yahoo with the connector type.

So basically look for output connectors on the TV and match it with the same type of connector on you Home Theater input.

Compatibility fo TV and Sound system

TV has audio outputs, the RCA cable type. If you connect the audio output (red, white) from the TV(look on the back), and connect the RCA cable to Input of home theater system, you should get TV sound from home theater system. You may have to set the audio on the TV for external source. Go to menu, to audio setup, to options. On the Home Theater system, you may have to select the audio source, i.e. audio input 1, etc.

Not sure how to connect other devices

Unfortunately, the Westinghouse monitor has a bunch of inputs available, but completely lacks the audio output connection you need that would make life simple. Your Philips HTS only a single auxiliary audio input, but it does offer video and audio output connections to a monitor.

About the only solution I see available is to buy an A/V selector switch (available from Radio Shack and probably stores like Best Buy). Run the audio connections from the HD receiver and XBox through it, and send the output from the selector switch to the auxiliary audio input on the HTS6500. (You could use RCA Y-adapters to connect the audio to the monitor as well as to the selector switch if you really want to.) Send the video from these sources directly to the monitor.

You would need to select the source on the monitor, A/V switch and HTS to get the result you want, but it would be workable. (Now, why didn't Westinghouse simply include a set of audio output jacks with all those sources available?)

If this solution has gotten you going, please take a moment to rate it. And thanks for asking here!

I want to connect the Audio from tv to Surrounding audio system

For connections of audio, so that you can hear all tv audio through the
surround system, connect either an optical audio cable or red & white
analog audio cables from the tv to the home theater. If you are using
optical audio, there is a plug on back of tv labeled for digital audio
output and an input on the surround sound system. If you plan on using
analog red and white, use the PROG OUT red and white output jacks on the
back of the tv to the AUX input on the home theater.

For video connections, to get HD you will need to be using either HDMI or
Component cables. HDMI is the cable that will provided 1080p signal (the
best HD signal), but if the source does not output 1080p, then your tv
will not display 1080p. Most cable boxes output at 1080i or 720p when on
HD stations. This signal still provides great picture quality, but HDMI is
not needed to get these HD signals. You can use component cables for your
cable box and the DVD player output to the tv for video. HDMI might give
you a slightly better picture quality but the signal will be the same.

To make the connection, you will want to connect from the cable box to the
tv (component or hdmi). Also from the home theater system to the tv using
hdmi or the video cables from component (red, blue, & green cables).

We hope this information is helpful to you.

Thank You,
Panasonic Consumer

Audio output not working

I had what may have been a similar problem and even talked to Westinghouse to see what I was doing wrong. Woman suggested there was a problem with the audio output port and suggested I exchange tv for another one. When the new one had the same problem, I discovered that to get audio out requires the volume to be turned way up on the tv (set speaker preference to external only if you don't want sound from tv speakers as well). If you have a digital optical connection on both the tv and the home theater, the sound output is independent from the tv setting and is easier to work with.
