The inverter board which provides the backlight power isn't working properly. This is a pretty common problem with LCD screens. The inverter is in the display, mounted under the display panel. It's a fairly simple job to replace the inverter. You have to remove the screws holding the front of the display to the back and separate the pieces. The inverter is held in place by a couple of screws and has a couple of cables connecting it to the main board and display panel. Unplug those, remove the inverter, mount the replacement and plug the cables back in. Then reassemble the display. A search on Google for "acer 5315 inverter" turned up several sources for the replacement part. Here is one. I don't know anything about this seller; I just picked it as an example.

The netbook (Aspire 5315) is on but screen is dark.

The inverter board has a problem, or the SMT Pico-fuse on the inverter is blown, the backlight has a problem, is burned out or cracked/broken, or the power to the backlight curcuit has a fault.

This is assuming you don't simply have the display set to external...if you do, then Fn F4 or F5 will likely turn the internal display back on.

Most unlikely of the solutions is the Lid Closed Sensor is stuck.

Start at the bottom of the list and work your way up.

If you aren't tech savvy and there's no repair depots in your area, you can go to www.SuperTech-IT.com and schedule the unit for ship-in repair.

Backlight is switched off and will not turn back onit flickers when fn f6 is pressed but goes back to dark

It sounds like it is the inverter board. It is probably not the backlight or the screen. Another symptom would be if you ever see a pinkish tint or hue on the screen. It can even work at times and die again. The inverter board is easy to repair, and you can definitely just buy one on ebay for probably $30 or less. Search google for instructions to replace inverter board on 5315 or even 5300.

My laptop powers on but the screen remains black

Try connecting your laptop to an external monitor. If that works, then it more than likely is the LCD backlight. Some models, it's easy to replace the backlight on, others, you have to replace the entire LCD display.

My acer extenza 4420 backlight wont turn on

most likely:

1. backlight is dead (search for replacement displays).

2. backlight power-inverter is dead (check ebay for your model +inverter to see if there is even one in your model)

3. (very unlikely) wires which power the backlight may be worn from bending over time.

for the time-being, connect an external monitor, if possible, so you can access your system. connect it, power-on, and it should work by default -if not, hold the Fn key and press F8 (usually this key) to enable external display output.

and.. good luck!

Acer screen looks dark?

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
