  1. Boot off the Windows Vista DVD
  2. Click Next at the first prompt select the language and click next.
  3. Select the link in the lower left-hand side for "Repair your computer"
  4. The installation process will attempt to find your Vista installation directory.( If there's more than one in the list, select the correct one and then use the Next button again.)
  5. Click the first link for "Startup Repair" (Or the last link "command prompt" if you want to use the alternative method as described below)
  6. The installation process will repair the system, and then prompt for you to reboot.

Alternatively you can choose the Command Prompt option instead to fix the boot only:
  1. Follow step 1-4 above
  2. on step 5 choose The last link "Command prompt"
  3. type bootrec /fixboot and hit enter.(space between bootrec and / )
  4. The installation process will repair the boot sector.

Hi I am vortash I think this is a farily easy one .. when you restored your settingd back to default it obvioulsly did not store the fact you had a dard drive installed ... ( I am assuming you where in the bios when you did this ) go back into the bios and go to main and check that the hard drive is registered if not set it on auto and then it will search for a disk you set it by using the down arrow key to highlight the hard disk or master or secondry I would put them all on auto then press f10 to exit and save it will ask you to save press Y and enter then the computer hopefully will do the rest ..... hope this helps regards Vortash

If you still have the windows OS on there, start your laptop and press F8 until the restore, repair screen shows, then run restore. That should do it.

Bootmrg missing

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Set your computer to boot from DVD or CD in your BIOS.

Vista will ask you for language and keyboard layout information, after which you will be asked if you want to re-install Vista or repair your existing installation.
Select Repair. After which Vista's System Recovery Tool will start.

Select Startup Repair and let Vista do its thing! That really is all there is to it!
