Re: change ip address of recently installed router

The is the device IP.

Your trying to change the "Default Gateway" mine is set to

Let me explain (:
1.Go to start>run>type "cmd" without quotes and press enter.

The black screen should appar, in that screen type "ipconfig/all" without quotes.

And press enter.

This is what mine looks like:

I took out some things to my security, but basically this is what some of these things represent.

For you, your IP it shows would be something like:
Each device hooked up to your network gets its own IP it will start at for the first device, then then the next device gets,etc...

Your default gateway, is where it starts, to change this go to:

  1. Open your browser
  2. Type in the browser
  3. Login to your router panel (the user an pass sometimes are admin/admin look in your manul for more info)
  4. Look where you can change your default gateway.
Here is a example of what mine looks like:

I hope this educated you, and helped you fix your problem for more help visit or just reply here.

D-Link 4-Port Ethernet Broadband Router EBR-2310 (EBR2310) reset password

On the back of the router there is a reset button. You may need to use a paperclip to get to it. With the power on, push in the reset button for about 30 seconds. Release the button, and let the router cycle thru lights. The router should now be reset.

I am trying to add a password to my wireless internet connection (D Link Router), so it cannot be accessed by everyone in my neighborhood. I am a mac user.

You want to secure the wireless network.
Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router with the cable.
Check the IP address on the computer. Open the router set up page.
Once you open the set up page, you will find the option to make it secured

I have a D-link EBR-2310 router and hooked it up a couple days ago. Since i have hooked it up and put my home comp and laptop on it. It runs the internet for a while and then it throws up errors on my comp...

You probably have a static ip address set on one of the pc's. The router is set to give out ip addresses automatically. If one of the pc's has a static ip address set,(within the range of addresses that the router is dishing out) then the router may try to give out that address, see that it is already in use, and produce the error.

    This is easy to fix:

    For xp:
go to the control panel, then to network connections. Right click on your network connection, and left click on properties. In the white area of the window that pops up, click on 'internet protocol tcp/ip' and click properties.

    For vista:
Go to the control panel, network and sharing centre, then click on manage network connections, right click on your network adapter, left click properties. Click on internet protocol version 4 (uncheck version 6 if it is checked) and check for auto ip and dns just like in xp.

Both pc's should be set to obtain an ip address and dns server automatically. If there are numbers in either area, this is the problem for sure. Make sure both are set to get an address automatically, reboot router and both pc's and that should be the end of it :)

Please post a comment and let me know how you make out.
