Question about Dishwashers

Open Question

Hotpoint fdl570g The dispencer has stopped working so tablets are not dropped into the machine during the wash cycle. I have ordered a replacement unit. In the meantime I tried a wash with the tablet in the cutlery basket. Although the tablet disolved some cups on the top rack came out dirty. Can I just put the tab on the bottom before starting the dishwasher or will the tablet just disolve on the first rinse cycle? Thanks Mike

The detergent cup can become clogged with old dried detergent that prevents it from opening at time. Sometimes just cleaning the cup takes care of the problem. The detergent cup opened by a bi-metal switch or a wax motor located inside your dishwasher door(behind the detergent cup). If cup's cleaning will not solve the problem, you should replace the bi-metal switch or the wax motor (depend which of them is used in your machine). Another option is just to place the detergent tablet on washer's bottom before starting its cycle. Good luck !

Most dishwashers work best when the food is rinsed off the dishes before they are put in the dishwasher. Also, run the hot water into the sink until it is hot and then turn on the dishwasher. good luck.

SOURCE: I have had my dishwasher for 3 years. In the past

I would say you are not getting any water flow since the water dissolves the tablet.

When starting it listen for the water valve opening and open door and see if there is any water.

If not it is probably the solenoid or a defective or blocked water valve which is not opening.

SOURCE: Tablet falls to the bottom of tub but wont disolve

The newer Whirlpool dishwashers have little slots in the top of the soap dispenser to allow water to seep in during the first water fill. This design allows the tablet to begin to dissolve during the first fill then be usefull when the soap door opens. In your case, I would check to see if the soap dish is opening at all. Perhaps one of the racks are not allowing clearance or the soap door itself is sticking closed.

Let the dishwasher fill, drain, and then fill again. Open the door of the dishwasher and see if the soap door is still closed and if so, there is your problem. Also, at this time, check the water temperature. It should be at least 120 degrees F for the soap to be effective.

Hope this helps, Ken

SOURCE: Detergent left in dispenser cup

You either do not have enough water getting itno the machine or it is not hot enough. 5 years old so I would suspect a plugged screen on the fill valve.

The washing machine is stopping half way through any normal cycle, seems unable to spin then stops. the spin is working on a rinse cycle

Possible that the suspect is the main program controller unit. You will need to check the voltage to the motor during the wash and spin cycle.
If there is no voltage then the controller can be faulty.

Kenmore front Loader washer leaking from bottom

I want you to run an empty load, pour 3-4 cups of white vinager into the soap dispencer, this will flush out detergent buildup, it sounds like the unit has a buildup of soap and is oversudsing, the vinager wash will stop it from happening, if this stops the problem cut the amount of soap you are using in 1/2. If it does not let me know, good luck

Keeps filling during wash cycle

If the machine des not stop filling and cycle hang in position, then it is a faulty water level switch.

If the machine does not stop filling , and the cycle goes on, then test that the inlet valve is not stuck in open position, if the inlet valve is OK, replace the timer control assembly.
