Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

Burners disappear from My Computer.

Every so often my two DVD/CD burners disappear from "My Computer" and can't be used. They are listed in the BIOS and system but as inoperable w error 10. Attempts to remove and/or reinstall fail, as do tries to reinstall the drivers. I get a message"you have the best drivers available". HP Pavillion a6000n w Vista.

I still require a solution, but I want to wait and see if someone provides one before I engage your ace team The problem is with a desktop Pavillion a6000n rather than the laptop listed.

Thanks for the help. This activated both burners. I did have a little trouble opening the downloaded program since it told me that it could not complete the installation. However, when i checked for the drives, they were there.

You may have to delete the upper and lower filters in the registry and then unistall it from device manager and reboot. Have you tried to delete upper and lower filters yet?

Hi Markan,

What ranger was referring to is a well known issue with vista that you used to have to manually fix. They have now released a free tool that will correct the problem if that is indeed the issue. Give it a try and then let us know wether it worked or not. There are some other potential issues but this is by far the most likely.

Here's the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Go to this link then scroll down and click the Fix link with the little repair man on it.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Driver for LG super multi dvd writer secure disk

You shouldn't need one. These drives are usually generic, the bios on your PC should find it and display it as an extra drive.

Assuming its connected and powered up, also assuming you're using windows, just click on "My Computer" you should find it there, probably listed as D, E or F drive.

I have an ATAPI DVD A DH16ABSH Dvd CD rom in my Gateway computer. It keeps on disappearing and reappearing in the computer. This computer was bought back in January. What makes it do this?

Sound like the Connectivity cable is either loose or there is a problem with your dvd rom burner check the cable that it connects to if it looks fine then contact or return the dvd rom burner for a different one

Mother board m7sxf no dvd function i need update de bios

before you go updating your bios you should troubleshoot your dvd using every option available

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or the drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

if this fails to fix the problem and you still want to

Find and fix errors in your system BIOS
BIOS Patcher can find and fix errors in your system BIOS (only AWARD BIOS for now) and also it can add or open new features, i.e. some features that your BIOS has but they are closed by manufacturer of your motherboard. It scans rom file. If it finds any known errors it fixes the errors. If it finds any closed features it opens it. hope this helps

My DVD burner disappeared from my computer. It is listed in the device manager and has no problems.

Go to device manager and uninstall the offending hardware. I had the same problem running Windows 2000 with dual DVD burners. They both stopped working and I tried unplugging them and rebooting-no luck. Tried fooling in the BIOS - no luck. Tried reinstalling the drivers - no luck.

The uninstall worked! After a reboot, Windows found the drives and installed them

Vista is proprietary, you need to go out and find the correct driver for that CD-RW/DVD-ROM for that Acer PC.

The d/(dvd burner) has disappeared from my computer

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
good luck

I have a Pioneer DVR-111 D or DBK or DSV on my PC tower and it's been there for about 2 years. I also had a Sony Burner on the same tower so I could burn from 1 DVD to another. The Sony went out so I...

first make sure that your dvd drive has power. to test just press the eject button. go to device manager, find dvd/cd-rom drives there and expand it. If the pioneer dvr is present and has an exclamation point then just reinstall the driver for that drive. if not there then check in the bios if its there, just got to system information in your bios. If not there then open your tower and unplug and replug the cable connecting your drive to te motherboard. then check again.
