Question about Kenmore 50522 / 50524 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore dryer that is about 10 years old but has been an excellent dryer until now. It has completely quit heating and just runs. I have pulled the heating element housing and crossed across it with my ohm meter and it has a full reading. The internet says that it has a thermal fuse but I cannot find it anywhere. This is one of the first electronic display dryers that came out and has been maintenance free. Does it have a thermal fuse, and if not what else could cause it to not heat? The model # is 110-96595520. Can you help me? Thanks Walter

Hi,

Pull the dryer out away from the wall. Unhook the vent from the dryer completely. Do not put anything over the dryer exhaust on the back of the dryer. Do a normal load with the vent unhooked. If it dries better or ok like this then the problem is in the dryer venting. Like a blocked vent pipe or a smashed or restricted vent hose.

If the vent doesn't make a difference, then check the blower wheel for excessive lint build up, check that there isn't anything stuck to the air intake baffle inside the drum, (i.e. the screen on the back wall of the dryer when looking into the drum). Check the lint filter chute for blockage. Check that the heating element isn't shorted to ground. Check the exhaust temperature of the dryer. A meat or pocket thermometer can be used for this. It should cycle approx between 120 degrees and 160 degrees ( without clothes ). Check that the drum seals are not worn out.

Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating:
- house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug.
A ohm meter test for these parts is here.

Thanks

I just replaced the motor in my Kenmore Series 90 dryer, When I'm running the dryer with no heat it runs as quite as could be expected for a ten year old dryer, When I run with heat the dryer starts making...

It could be possibly your rear roller bearings expanding with heat causing them to not spin as freely? Im not really too sure but its an idea you dont have many moving parts on the unit. Just your idler pulley, blower wheel, and rollers. Hope this helps.

Kenmore dryer. Heats up intensely

Hi, It's an over heating motor that's cousing the thermal switch to trip, on the motor.

Motor retails for $150.
Labor for putting it in is $90.

It might just be worth replacing it.
Sorry for the bad news :(

Best of luck.

Replace the gas valve coils. Common problem after 3-4 years.

Dryer runs but no heat

Could be a number of things. The dryer fuse, igniter, gas valve coils. Really you need a multi meter to know for sure. Take a look and see if the igniter glows at all. If it does not, that is probably the most common thing it could be.
