Messing with the ink cartridges is not a good idea at all.

Better to go to settings/properties and adjust print quality

from 'fast' to 'normal' and / or increase the ink flow. If the

cartridges are dirty, they can be cleaned using the utility.

    Thanks for answering.

Black vertical line prints on the right side of every page.

Good Day Tkidwell!

Better check and clean the ADF platen glass and the flatbed scanner glass.

Use a lint clothe moistened with alcohol or water and gently wipe the dirt in the glasses of the ADF platen and flatbed scanner.

You can also try cleaning the roller by performing the deep cleaning.

I am scanning a photo. I have translucent lines running horizontal through the picture before i print it.

Documents scanned/copied from the document feeder pass over a thin glass area where scanning occurs. Clean this area if sent faxes, copies or scans have black or white vertical lines.
  1. Lift the document cover to expose the platen glass.

  2. Wipe the ADF scan area (C) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.

  3. Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure there are no residues left, especially on the platen glass.

  4. Close the document cover and make a copy of a text document to confirm the black line has disappeared.

Getting a black vertical line on paper when using top feed, does not do it when placed on scanner

1. Check the Automatic Document Feeder for any debris (paper, lint, etc.)
2. Open the top cover to reveal the platen glass.
3. Look to the far left, you'll see a thin strip of platen glass seperate from the bigger plate where you place flatbed scans on.
4. Check the thin strip of platen glass for any marks (correction fluid, marker ink, etc.)
5. Wipe glass with a damp cloth and some Window cleaning detergant.

Does the line still appear now when you scan using the ADF?

I have a canon pixma mp 470 printer/scanner that i am using for the first time to print pictures. The first one printed out beautifully, but every picture since then has visible vertical lines in it. I...

You will find that the ink in the cartridge is low or almost out. If you haven't printed pictures for some time than the unit has still purged, which means to have sucked ink through the head, everytime you have turned it on. The long and short of this is that over time it has been emptying your cartridges. Nothing you can do about it, it is just the wayy these machines operate. Try checking the ink levels and if they are all full, leave the print head in park overnight and try again tomorrow, see what happens. If it is still giving you lines than it may need to have the print head replaced.
Don't do any more cleans now, you are just wasting your ink. Allow it to sit and you may find it will fix itself.

Colored Vertical Lines when ADF Scanning

the scanner system using ADF is not the same as in using from the platen glass, (CIS usually called contact image sensor) reads your document and sends the info to be printed, chances are your CIS assembly could be dirty and have some dirt on its surface, try opening this area on the top of ADF and clean with a moistened cloth, especially the affeced left margin, it should work!

Verical line(s) problem with canon mp780

Hi Nick, It's ONLY when you copy? I start by cleaning the platen glass. Wipe the Platen Glass with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water. Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure not to leave any residue, especially on the Platen Glass. If you have trouble getting the scanning area clean, wipe with diluted mild detergent (for dish washing). Do the same thing for the white area under the platen lid. If this does not resolve the problem let me know. His Dudeness
