The TAD connector stands for Telephone Answering Device, this should have nothing to do with your computer shutting down sporatically. You may have an over-heating problem. If you are not using your computer as a fax machine, you don't need a wire plugged into the TAD connector. The TAD connector is sometimes used as a sound card connector, so if you have trouble with your sound card, try plugging in that wire.

Dimension 4600 dvd drive keeps opening

Try this first - open up the BIOS part of the system. To do this, shut the computer off; wait at least 10 seconds; turn the computer back on and then press F2 when the Dell logo appears. Press continually until the message Entering Setup appears. In the Boot Order section, remove the CD/DVD drive from the boot order by clicking on Disable from the drop-down menu. If this doesn't fix it, please resubmit your question

My dell dimension 4600 won't boot up and when you try to turn it off with the button it just starts back up.

It sounds like a back-up was started and now your system is trying to complete the task before it shuts down. You can turn it off by holding the power button down for 10 seconds. This will cause the power supply to shut down completely. You will lose any unsaved data and it may corrupt your back-up.

Manufacturer-spplied hardware support disk

You can go to support.dell.com and get all the drivers that originally shipped with your system. It's a bit of a pain-especially the first time around but when you do get them downloaded, burn them to a disc and store it away for future use. I was a tad dismayed the first time I found out that Dell puts all their drivers on a disc separate from the OS so it's a 2 stage process when you have to reimage but at least they do make them available. The only b**ch is when you need the network drivers to get there in the first place! In that case, you'll need a buddy's computer and internet connection to download them. I recommend a flash drive as it is easier to transport. Let me know if I can help further.
