I need a cpu cooler for xeon e5420 socket 771 in dell precision T5400. I've two processors, one owith the special Dell heatsink, and other with intel 2U heatsink. The difference between both are, at 100%, 20ºC. :S

I think T5400 heatsink it's compatible with Dell Precision 490 heatsink. Otherwise, a heatsink of L 9cm x W 8cm x T 8cm could be fine. But all heatsink I've seen are taller. Maybe liquid cooling?

Actually what you need is a Heatsink & Fan for a Intel "Xeon" Processor. I believe some of these came with dual core and quad core CPU's. So make sure as to EXACTLY what type processor you have and look for a heatsink for that.

Or, you can call Dell directly and purchase it from them. Dell sometimes uses Fan tunnels in there machines, instead of directly mounting the fan on the CPU.

I hope this info helps, please rate my solution. Have a great day!

Remove stuck heatsink

Use the twist motion, twist the heatsink back and forth on the horizontal plane gently. This will allow air to move between the two flat surfaces.

Therefore reducing suction.

Hi, I have an Dell precison M70 and my screen went funny, with characters all over the screen and unable to see anything. I have researched and it looks like a problem so many have the nvidia card...

Nvidia Graphics cards caused a lot of problems on the HP DV series laptops. you are probably right in assuming this is the issue here.
you will probably not get anywhere with Dell as the laptop is out of warranty, but you can try to repair the problem by stripping the laptop, cleaning out the heatsink and fan areas of the CPU and removing the heatsink to clean and regrease (with cpu grease) the cpu chip. The graphics chip will have a cooling pad on, which looks like blu tack, check this is intact and replace the heatsink, tightening up the screws evenly. A thin copper shim between the cooling pad on the gfx chip and the heatsink may also help sort out the problem, although the repair will not last very long

All fans are working properly. System still comes on stays on for approx 2 mins and turns off.

CPU is overheating - the heatsink may be loose or no thermal paste.
Take heatsink off and have a look.
Go into BIOS and view hardware readings - watch CPU temp to see if it risees.

How do i remove the processor on a dell optiplex gx 280 from the heatsink and repaste the processor seems to be like glued to the heatsink?

The heatsink compound does act as a weak glue over time. To remove the heatsink, twist gently after removing the clamps, to release the junction. The CPU should stay in it's socket. Scrape off the old compound and add new and re-install the heatsink.

Loose heatsink on dell dimension 1100

I'd seize the opportunity to get a new cheap cooler, as it can also extend the life of the PC.

If not you're in for either some DIY soldering or asking Dell for another clip.
