There are difference method of conecting 2 computers to the printer. the perfer method is use a "printserver" which is a hub like device that enable mulitple computer to use single printer.
the other method is not perfered, and can cause problem do the road. is conect 1 computer to usb and the other to parallel port. one computer must be off in order for this configuration to work. The printer may or may not print with both computers on. If that happens then you have to reset both computer and the printer. or other error may occure.

49,4c18 error

49.XXXXX ERROR
A critical firmware error has occurred.
1. Turn the device off and then on.
2. Try to determine whether the error occurs intermittently, while printing, or when turning on the device.
3. If the error appears while printing, determine whether it occurs when printing from a specific computer, a specific application, or a specific file. If all other computers, applications, or files
can print without the error, then the problem may be only within one print job or computer. Make sure the computer has the most current printer drivers, or use a generic printer driver.
4. Go to www.hp.com/support/LJP3005. Click Download Drivers and Software. Check for the latest firmware image version at the bottom of the page. If this firmware image is newer than the
one installed on the device and the device can receive a firmware update, download the newer firmware upgrade.
Try printing a job from a different software program. If the job prints, go back to the first program and try printing a different file. If the message appears only with a certain software program or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance.
6. If the message persists, contact your HP Support.

HP Laser 4L driver for USB port

Not all USB adapters are the same, you need the one that is made for your printer, I would try a different adapter before going too deep, because when you plug it in your computer should see it even without drivers.

Laser jet 2430tn printing slow

Check the way your print Jobs Spool up in your PC. you may have a totally different set up for printing in your new computer that takes two or three extra steps(such as spooling the print job) prior to actually sending it to the printer to be printed. If you have a user manual for your new computer, check the printer set up and see if it is set up to print directly to printer or print to spooling folder then to printer. Also try a different driver if you wish, I know the 2430 can use either PCL5 or PCL6 drivers... I'd start there and see if there is a difference.... the problem isn't your printer obviously its the way your computer is communicating to it. Best of luck to you.

Only prints on computer restart!

Have you tried a different port?
This will identify if it is a USB issue, possible USB 1 or 2.
It sounds like an issue with your port and not the printer, do you have access to advanced settings on your computer for USB?

Printing from 2 different pc, drivers installed on the server, get different quality

I think that quality settings is different for each user. If your printer have network card, pleas install printer with TCP/IP port in every PC, not from server, more job, but less problems.
