Question about Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook

Bad motherboard for M1730

Originally, the system spontaneously shutdown. Would not restart. Unplugged ac adapter. Still nogo. Noticed when ac adapter plugged into wall, green light is on. Just as soon as ac adapter is plugged into dc power plug, the light on the ac adapter goes out. System would not boot on just the battery and with all the CRUs removed. Purchased refurbished board on e-bay. System functions now. Would like to repair the defective motherboard and keep as backup. Will a bad dc power plug cause this problem? How does one test this? Many people seem to be able to change a dc power plug; but, if there isn't any obvious damage, how does one test to verify that the component is bad? There are no obviouse burns or melted components on the board.

I had the same problem...mine is an inspiron but I think it's a 1300 series?...the computer just flicked off spontaneously and won't do anything...no power, no lights, nothing...it's dead. Mine is only 2.5 years old so there really is no reason for this to be happening. I've had nothing but problems since I purchased this computer which is the second computer I had to get them to send me b/c the first one didn't work either. I spent a great deal of money on this computer and am really disappointed...definately will not go with Dell again! Anyway, my brother checked my battery and it works fine. My power adapter works fine too. I wish I had a solution...hopefully someone out there might.

Take out the battery of your machine and plug in the power. if it works well, suspected faulty battery. you need to replace it.

there are different ways on how to check it.
    - if the battery is and power adapter is ok you might need to check other part
    - take out hard disk, plug in power. if ok, suspected hard disk faulty
    - if not, take out memory card, plug in power. (you will hear a sound from your machine once to boot it after taking out the memory card). if ok, suspected memory card faulty.
    - if u didn't hear any sound, suspected it's a motherboard faulty that you need to replace.

Possible cause:
1. Battery is charged less than 6%, and the ac adapter is unplugged,
2. The laptop is shutdown due to blocked fan outlet and inlet (by dust), or the fan does not spin (damaged cooling system),
3. Motherboard is damaged.

I have alenovo ibm thinkpad R60 laptop but it does not starts in battery aswell as in ac.Sometimes it get started but after few seconds it automatically shutdowns.

Apart from possibly failed battery and/or adapter, spontaneous shutdowns can be signs of overheating or PREVIOUSLY overheated processor, regardless of make or model.

First step is to disconnect BOTH the battery and adapter, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to release any static electricity then try powering it up with ADAPTER ONLY, then BATTERY ONLY, then BOTH; just to check which setup would repsoduce the symptom.

If the above steps do not isolate the cause of the problem, test the machine with a spare battery and/or adapter (or test your computers battery & adapter on a similar machine) to see if the problem follows the computer itself. If it does, then the next step is to reapply thermal compound to the processor.

If that doesn't make it work correctly, then the processor and motherboard will have to be tested for functionality and one or both of them may have to be replaced.

My Acer aspire 4935 is not recognizing the AC adapter. When ever I shutdown the system and connects the AC adapter, it works and the charging LED lights up. Once I press the power button to boot the...

Problem description:The battery charges only when the laptop turned off. The battery charge LED lights up as normal and the battery gets charged to 100% while the laptop is off.
When the laptop is turned on, the battery charge LED goes off even if the adapter is still plugged in.
Possible cause:1. AC power adapter failure.
2. Battery failure.
3. Broken/loose power jack.
4. Motherboard failure.
Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:1. This problem could be related to a faulty AC power adapter. It's possible that the AC adapter doesn't provide enough power when plugged into the laptop. To find out if this is your problem, you'll have to test the laptop with another working adapter.Replace the adapter if needed.

2. There is a slight chance that you have bad battery. Test the laptop with a know good battery and replace the faulty one if needed.

3. The battery charge problem could be related to the power jack. Maybe the jack is broken or not making good contact with the motherboard. It is necessary to remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. Resolder or replace the jack if needed.

4. If the power jack is in a good working shape and new power adapter with battery do not fix the problem, most likely you have a faulty motherboard. Replace the motherboard if needed.

My Dell Inspiron 1525 Shutdown Spontaneously

Generally with laps the reason for a spontaneous shutdown is power. Either your battery is low or the transformer for power is going bad or is bad. There is information under the control panel, then power options which show the power settings and a meter to check the amount of power left and what is being used for power. Check those two items and you may fine your problem. Also make sure the battery is properly inserted into the slot, if it is loose a bit of movement may trigger the shutdown.

If either of these work please leave feedback.

either power supply is faulty or motherboard is fried. You can test power supply wires to motherboard with a voltmeter. Should be 12-13.5 volts. To high or very low voltage is bad and can fry video part of motherboard

Bad motherboard for M1730

With the Dell laptops, if it were a broken power jack you would know by looking. It would show signs of missing/broken solder around the solder points. You could do a continuity test with a Volt/Ohm meter. However this would be tough with the barrel plug dell uses.

Now as far as getting someone to repair it for you. Iwould recommend a guy I use in florida. I originally found out about him on Ebay, he does a great job repairing motherboard issue (on the component level). He has ALL the proper equipment to ddo this. I have provided a link to his Ebay contact page. Send him an email, I am sure he can fix ya up.
