Question about Frigidaire GSTF1670A Front Load Washer
Dear FixYa expert:
I have a Frigidaire Gallery Front loading clothes washer that I am repairing. At first I thought it would be an easy repair as I noticed one of the shocks that support the drum was cleanly broken. As I started to work on installing the new strut, I noticed a large piece of plastic sitting near the back of the washer. I removed the back and found a hole in the plastic "outer" drum that fit my discovered piece perfectly. TO check things out, I tried to rotate the drum manually and I can hear something rotating inside the drum between the steel drum and the plastic out drum. As I listened to the "rattle" it seemed to be coming from the center of the plastic drum. So here is my theory. The main bearings siezed in the middle of the spin cycle, caused the shock to break off (plastic part) and the steel drum hit the plastic outer drum and broke off a piece of it. What do you think? Now here are my questions.
#1) Where can I get an exploded view of this washer, Model FWTR647GHSO or "0' (zero, I can't tell which).
#2) How can I get in there to get that broken piece (or bearings) out from between the two drums?
#3) Do I have to take the entire drum out of the machine to do it?
#4) Regarding replacing the bearings (if that is the problem), how do you get the pulley off the back of the outer plastic drum in order to fix it?
What ever suggestions you might have would be appreciated.
The rear half of the outer tub, with bearing is part #
131525500 and it looks like the back "spider" shaft is not available as a separate part from the inner drum. The "spider" shaft is most likely worn or damaged and in need of replacement also.
Then, there's that strut
Now, two pain in the back side hours of your labor and you've got your washer back, at more than what a new one would cost! Junk it and get a new larger capacity front loader.
Please don't rate this, as anything but the top rating will lower my score. I'm just giving you my honest opinion, that your machine is not economical to repair. I've owned a LG front loader for over 6 years and think they are the best, but there are other good front loaders out there also.
