Hi. You may have a wet ignition coil. First you have to locate wet the coil. If you have a check engine light on and a cheap code reader you can check which one is misfiring. Code P0301 means cylinder number 1, P0302 cylinder 2, P0303 cylinder 3, P0304 cyl number 4, P0305 cyl # 5 and P0306 cyl # 6. Looking at the engine compartment at passenger side you will see cylinders 1, 3 and 5 from the front to the back. On driver side you will have cylinders 2, 4 and 6 from the front to the back. I recommend you to purchase a subscription at www.alldatadiy.com to get information about your cars so you can see how to perform a ignition coil removal/install so you can fix your car. If the coil is not wet you can swap the coil position with the coil from the next cylinder, clear the codes and drive the car until the check engine light comes back on. Read the code and if the code change to the cylinder that you put the "defect" coil, replace the defect coil for a new one. If the misfire does not change the cylinder, you may have a bad injector, bad cylinder head valve, bad intake manifold gasket and few other possibilities and for that I recommend you to take to an auto repair shop, because you will need special tools and a deeper diagnostic. I hope that helps. Take care.

What could cause engine misfire in heavy rain & carwash?

Ignition wiring system Error codes may identify more specifically. It could be as simple as a plug wire or distributor wire not installed tightly enough and water that normally would not enter the connection. Could be the Distributor cap is not on tight enough. and or the connection to the coil. Water usually affects the high voltage components. Double check all the spark wiring. I'd also take it to your favorite auto parts store for a code read.

My 2003 infinity g-35 was skipping badly after heavy rain, its not skipping as bad now in dry weather. is it the ignition coil?

You are on the right track. The moisture in the air from the rain is messing with the high voltage going from the coil to the spark plugs. If there are wire(s) running from the coil(s) to the spark plugs, they probably need to be replaced to seal out moisture better. Easy to do. Replace then one at a time so you don't get them mixed up.

Check engine light keeps blinking and car shaking as the rpm has gone lower

No, you may have got the ignition system wet. The flashing check engine light indicates an ignition misfire. You probably need a tune up including some spark plug cables. It may run better when it dries out, but it will come back again when it get's wet.

2003 honda civic cuts out when wet weather or car wash

Could be two different problems.
The ignition system could be shorting out and shut the engine off when wet, and the serpentine belt could be slipping when wet which would cause the alternator not to charge.
The battery light should come on if the engine dies.

Loss of power when it rains.

If your air filter is not fresh, the difference in the weather conditions actually causes the air filter to restrict the flow of air into the engine just enough that the super sensitive system you are driving notices it.

There are also other sensors that pick this up causing a performance change in the operating system. If your filter has recently been changed then of course other than being soaked with water in freezing temperatures, this shouldn't be a factor. Just a consideration:

this is also a sign of the car going into the "limp" operation and could also be caused by something getting wet, such as the ignition system. Double check your seals and panels that block moisture from your engine components. Wiring can be sprayed with sealers to help in preventing excessive moisture if your wiring is showing any age.

Good Luck

Car stalls in wet weather

Take a look at the ignition system, most likely there are coils and ignition wires on this car, but don't quote me on it. However, this is very likely on a seventeen year old car.
Anyway, if the wires are more than four or five years old, it might be a good idea to replace them as moisture tends to get into the insulation and cause a misfire or stall. (I had this problem with my '89 Tracer and it drove me nuts). Another issue is check the ignition coils and make sure there are no cracks as these will less moisture in and cause a misfire.
