readjust the adjuster bar at the top between the shoes

This is the auto adjuster and will have to be readjusted when the drum has been fitted.

Replaced brake master cylinder on a 1972 pickup 4x4 and the back brakes lock up when pedal is applied. all four wheel brake cylinder and master have been bled. is this a bad proportioning valve.


Of course the possibles were checked for. Contaminated shoes, overly adjusted tight, shoes installed backwards(short shoe faces front), resurfaced drums that actually have a thread like groove to them that acts like a nut(turned too fast and horizontal set too high), front fluid flow restricted via hoses or bent lines, shoe hold downs ????
What was reason for master cyl. replacement? Was the same problem present before? If simply leaking and problem occured after replacement I'ld say bad master. Proportioning valves rarely go out. However they can get air bound and don't bleed correctly. You must hold in or out on reset valve till accomplished. Usually detected by variation in bleed/flow rate. Check over and report findings. The more info the closer the diagnoses.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION


See Figures below instructions

1. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.

2. Remove the wheel, tire, hub and finally, the drum assembly.

3. Using a spring removal tool, remove the horizontal securing spring at the top first of the assembly.

4. Pull the adjuster locking plate away from the shoes.

5. Remove the lower horizontal securing spring.

6. Unfasten one of the 2 shoe hold-down springs and remove the pin.

7. Remove the brake adjuster.

8. Remove the remaining hold down spring and clip.

9. Lift the brake shoes assembly off the backing plate and wheel cylinder assembly. Be careful not to bend adjusting lever during the removal process.

10. Remove the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever.

11. Remove the horseshoe retaining clip and spring washer and slide the lever off the parking brake lever pin on the trailing shoe.



To install:

12. Apply a light coating of high temperature grease at the points where the brake shoes contact the backing plate.

13. Apply a light coating of lubricant to the adjuster screw threads and the socket end of the adjusting screw. Turn the adjusting screw into the adjusting pivot nut to the limit of the threads and then back-off 1 / 2 turn.

14. Assemble the parking brake lever to the trailing shoe by installing the spring washer and a new horseshoe retaining clip. Crimp the clip until it retains the lever to the shoe securely.

15. Attach the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever.

16. Attach the lower retracting spring to the leading and trailing shoe assemblies and install to backing plate. It will be necessary to stretch the retracting spring as the shoes are installed downward over the anchor plate to inside of shoe retaining plate.

17. Install the adjuster screw assembly between the leading shoe slot and the slot in the trailing shoe and parking brake lever. The adjuster socket end slot must fit into the trailing shoe and parking brake lever.



The adjuster socket blade is marked R or L for the right or left brake assemblies. The R or L adjuster blade must be installed with the letter R or L in the upright position, facing the wheel cylinder, on the correct side to ensure that the deeper of the 2 slots in the adjuster sockets fits into the parking brake lever.

18. Assemble the adjuster lever in the groove located in the parking brake lever pin and into the slot of the adjuster socket that fits into the trailing shoe web.

19. Attach the upper retracting spring to the leading shoe slot. Using a suitable spring tool, stretch the other end of the spring into the notch on the adjuster lever. If the adjuster lever does not contact the star wheel after installing the spring, it is possible that the adjuster socket is installed incorrectly.

20. Inspect your work to make sure it is correct.

21. Install the hub/drum and wheel/tire assemblies and adjust the wheel bearings.

22. Lower the vehicle and check brake operation.

I want to replace the parking brake shoes on my 2004 ford explorer plus install new springs etc. do I need to take the hub holding the wheel lugs off to do this?


Yes, that is the easy part, but what is done next? It has been my experience that it is a real bear to put the new shoes on. You will need two people unless you have e hands. Mount both shoes with the pin and clip. If the front pin needs to be threaded thru the hole, feed some wire thru the hole and wrap it over the tip of the pin, then pull it thru the hole. Once the clips are back in place, put on the top spring using needle nose pliers and a lot of muscle. Put the adjusting screw in (fully turned in), then the bottom spring. Put the rotor on and adjust the screw until it as close to the rotor surface as possible without touching it.

How to change rear barke shoes


Brake Drums & Brake Shoes Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Raise and safely support rear of vehicle.
  2. Release parking brake.
  3. Remove rear wheel assemblies. NOTE: If brake drum is stuck, install two 8 mm bolts into threaded holes and tighten evenly.
  4. Remove top return spring, front and rear shoe spring clips and hold-down pins.
  5. Remove anti-rattle spring and adjuster spring. NOTE: Note position of operating lever prior to removal.
  6. Remove bottom return spring.
  7. Remove clip and washer and detach parking brake cable from rear shoe.
  8. Remove brake shoes.
To Install:
  1. Lubricate all brake shoe contact points with appropriate grease.
  2. Place operating level into position on hub.
  3. Install rear brake shoe and connect parking brake cable to rear shoe with washer and clip.
  4. Install front brake shoe and install bottom return spring.
  5. Install hold-down pins and spring clips.
  6. Position operating lever and install top return spring.
  7. Install anti-rattle spring and adjuster spring.
  8. Install brake drum and screws.
  9. Adjust brakes and install rear wheel assemblies.

5-2 THREADING the LAMINATOR
1. Remove the supply roll mandrels and the feed tray. The supply roll mandrels are now ready to accept
loading of the film rolls, wound with the polyester (shiny) side out. When viewed from the front of the
machine, the core grippers on both the top and bottom supply roll mandrels should point toward the
heat shoes (and toward each other). The tension control knobs should be positioned on the right. Notice the
knobs are labeled "Top Right" and "Bottom Right". If you have rolls of film on which the material is wound
in the opposite direction (adhesive or dull side out) exchange the top and bottom supply roll mandrels so
the core gripper positions are reversed.
2. Slide a roll of film onto the top supply roll mandrel, turning the roll slightly to slide the gripper inside the
core. Center the roll. Make sure the dull side of the film is facing up and the shiny side is facing the
heat shoes during the threading. Scored marks on the supply roll mandrels provide a guide for proper
alignment of the two rolls of film to each other.
NOTE: The pointed metal pieces protruding from the body of the supply roll mandrels grip the cardboard core of the film supply roll to prevent slippage. When placing a roll of film on the mandrel, twist the film supply roll to
accommodate easier film loading.
3. With the roll aligned with the scored line on the right side of the mandrel, place it in the top bracket.
Place the left side of the shaft in its slot first then place the right side of the shaft in its slot, turning it as
needed. FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED LOADING PROCEDURES CAREFULLY WHEN THREADING
FILM IN THE LAMINATOR. ACCURATE ALIGNMENT OF ROLLS WILL MINIMIZE WASTE AND HELP KEEP
THE LAMINATOR CLEAN.
4. While the machine is still cold, review the threading diagram. With the bottom roll of film centered on
the mandrel and the shiny side facing down, run the film under the bottom idler bar and pull towards
you.
5. Load and thread the top roll of film in the same manner as the bottom roll. Refer to the threading diagram. The
film should run under the silver stabilizer bar and over the front of the top heat shoe. Remember, the shiny
side of the film must always go against the shoe. The dull (adhesive) side must face away from the shoe.
Make sure the two rolls are aligned with each other before going to the next step.
6. Turn machine on and heat to the desired temperature.
7. With both rolls threaded and installed in their respective brackets, unwind enough film from the top roll
to reach the bottom of the bottom heat shoe. Next, unwind enough film from the bottom roll to reach the
top of the top heat shoe.
8. Now drape the film from the bottom roll against the film from the top roll on the top shoe. If the laminator is
hot, the exposed adhesive on the top web will hold the bottom web and make it easy to stick the two rolls
together. If you are threading the machine while it is cold, use tape to stick the bottom web against the top
web.
9. Tip the safety shield down into the laminating position. With the film draped over the two heat shoes, push
one edge of the threading card between the heat shoes so that the film is firmly positioned against the
laminating rollers. If a threading card is not available, any piece of card stock or poster board will work.
10. Make sure there is still enough slack in the web. Turn the drive switch to FORWARD, permitting the film and
feed board to pass through both sets of rubber rollers. Carefully monitor initial threading to be sure the web
reaches and passes through the pull (back) rollers. When the threading card has cleared the back of the
machine, move the drive switch to the center position (off). Whenever you want to remove the film and/or
laminated material from the back of the machine, use the zippy cutting tool provided with the laminator.
11. Slide the feed tray into position.
12. If the machine has the slitter option, make sure the slitters are disengaged (blades in the raise
position) and moved all the way to either side of the machine.
CAUTION: The laminator is designed to be run with the operator directly facing the
control panel and feed tray, not at an angle or from the side of the machine. For
operator safety, the safety shield must be in position over the upper heat shoe
when the machine is ON, or when the drive switch is in the forward position.

Replacing rear brakes



REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
It is a good idea to only disassemble and assemble one side at a time, leaving the other side intact as a reference.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the brake drum.
  3. Disconnect the parking brake rear cable and conduit.
  4. Remove the brake shoe hold-down springs and brake shoe hold-down pins.
  5. Remove the brake shoe adjusting screw spring.
  6. Remove the brake shoe adjusting lever and adjuster screw.
  7. Remove the brake shoe retracting spring.
  8. Remove the brake shoes from the backing plate.
  9. Remove and discard the parking brake lever clip. Remove the washer.
  10. Remove the parking brake lever from the rear brake shoe.

To install:
  1. Thoroughly clean the backing plate with brake cleaning solvent and dry completely.
  2. Use silicone grease to lubricate the brake backing plate-to-brake shoe contact areas.
  3. Apply a light coating of premium grease to the threaded areas of the adjuster. Turn the adjuster in and out to spread the lubricant. Turn the adjuster all the way down on the screw and loosen one-half turn.
  4. Install the parking brake lever to the rear (secondary) brake shoe with a new clip.
  5. Position the brake shoes on the backing plate and install the brake shoe hold-down springs.
  6. Attach the parking brake rear cable and conduit to the parking brake lever.
  7. Attach the brake shoe retracting spring.

The socket end of the brake adjuster screw is stamped with "R" or "L" to indicate that it is to be installed either on the right (passenger's side) or left (driver's side) of the vehicle. The adjuster nuts can be distinguished by the number of grooves machined around the body of the nut. Two grooves indicate a right-hand adjuster nut and one groove indicates a left-hand adjuster nut. Another way to identify brake adjuster assemblies is to check thread pitch. The right side adjuster assembly has right-hand threads and the left side has left-hand threads. If installed correctly, the brake adjuster assembly will increase in length when the brake shoe adjusting lever is operated.
  1. Install brake adjuster screw in the slots on the brake shoes. The wider slot on the socket end must fit in the slot on the front (primary) brake shoe.
  2. Install the brake shoe adjusting lever on the lever pin.
  3. Install the brake adjusting screw in the slot on the secondary brake shoe and in the slot on the brake shoe lever. The brake shoe adjusting lever should contact the brake adjuster screw.
  4. Adjust the brake shoes.
  5. Install the drums.


ADJUSTMENTS

The drum brakes are self-adjusting and require a manual adjustment only after the brake shoes have been replaced, or when the length of the adjusting screw has been changed while performing some other service operation.
Drum Installed

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the rubber plug from the adjusting slot on the backing plate.
  3. Insert a Brake Adjustment Tool (D81L-1103-C) or equivalent into the slot and engage the lowest possible tooth on the starwheel. Move the end of the brake spoon downward to move the starwheel upward and expand the adjusting screw. Repeat this operation until the brakes lock the wheels.
  4. Insert a small screwdriver or piece of firm wire (coat hanger wire) into the adjusting slot and push the automatic adjusting lever out and free of the starwheel on the adjusting screw and hold it there.
  5. Engage the topmost tooth possible on the starwheel with the brake adjusting spoon. Move the end of the adjusting spoon upward to move the adjusting screw starwheel downward and contract the adjusting screw. Back off the adjusting screw starwheel until the wheel spins freely with a minimum of drag. Keep track of the number of turns that the starwheel is backed off, or the number of strokes taken with the brake adjusting spoon.
  6. Repeat this operation for the other side. When backing off the brakes on the other side, the starwheel adjuster must be backed off the same number of turns to prevent side-to-side brake pull.
  7. When the brakes are adjusted, make several stops while backing the vehicle to equalize the brakes on both of the wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Remove the brake drum.
  2. Make sure that the shoe-to-contact pad areas are clean and properly lubricated.
  3. Using a Brake Adjustment Gauge (D81L-1103-A) or equivalent, check the inside diameter of the drum.
  4. Measure across the diameter of the assembled brake shoes, at their widest point.
  5. Turn the adjusting screw so that the diameter of the shoes is 0.030 in. (0.76mm) less than the brake drum inner diameter.
  6. Install the drum.


INSPECTION

Inspect the brake shoes for wear using a ruler or Vernier caliper. Compare measurements to the brake specifications chart. If the lining is thinner than specification or there is evidence of the lining being contaminated by brake fluid or oil, replace all brake pad assemblies (a complete axle set).

How to replace the rear break drums on a hyumdai accent gs


Brake Drums-They seem to be fastened with a nut and have bearings that need to be regreased based on the diagram found for replacing the shoes. Removal & Installation To Remove:

Brake wont hold going down or up hill. How do you adjust them


Look in the manual if you can find one. If not drop the deck and take a look at the linkage on the brake pedal. You may well find that the pedal connects to shoes which pinch a small disc in the transmission via a long rod which has an adjustment set of threads and a nut. Either replace the little shoes, or adjust the nut and threaded rod.

Can't fit the cleats to MO76 shoes. Instruction


assuming your using Shimano pedal cleats?

You should have on the bottom of the shoe 4 threaded holes showing.
(if not then you will need to check the shoe box as sometimes they need to be fitted)

The cleat should be placed directly on top of this... with the point facing towards the front of the shoe.
You then need to place the OO plate on top of the cleat and place the crews in making sure the cleat is positioned straight.

Once tightened then place the cleat on the pedal and make sure its position is correct and your shoe is sitting straight then re-tighten.
