On the tranxaxle near the right rear wheel is where the brakes are located. There will be a rod going back to a lever. This lever will have a nut on it. Tighten the nut with a 1/2" wrench. With the transmission in neutral on level ground ensure the mower can be moved with slight resistance.

Craftsman lt2000

Garden tractors have a crash style gearbox ( no syncro ) so if there is any movment or drag on the gearbox pulley it will not change gear, this is a belt issue or belt adjustment issue, if the belt is too short or is sagging down so as it is snatching on the pulley you will struggle to change gear.

I have a sears craftsman riding lawnmower LT2000 model #917.273751 18hp intek engine 42in deck.Engine runs fine but when I release the clutch-brake pedal engine stalls.seems like an intermitent problem...

There are other safety switches as well. The electrical diagram shows (2) of the interlock switches (part no. 16 in diagram) in the electrical system. The location of the 2nd one could be on the transmission or the clutch/brake pedal. It could also be on the PTO system (blade actuator if you will). See if you can find the other switch on your unit. I have an LT1000 and have NOT looked for them. Here is an electrical diagram on your unit.

You can find that on the Sears site that has all the manual downloads. They are here. Sears has 2,054 lawn tractor manuals on here. Yours should be there.

Craftsman LT2000 transmission won't engage

Sounds like you either lost a bearing inside the transmission or that something in the linkage system has come loose and shifted. easiest way is to jack the unit up and visually follow the shifting hardware, while having someone trying to engage it with unit shut off and see is you can visually find where the shaft is slipping or failing to move. Hope This Helps Don
