Inverter problems Hello, I have a Heart Freedom 25 Inverter charger and have just installed a brand new battery bank. The charger performs as expected when running from the Alternator on my boat, but when running on mains power the system seems to have a problem. If I drain the batteries slightly and engage the charger the current increases steadily as it should to a very healthy maximum (100+ Amps). As the battery voltage approaches 13.8V the current reduces to a point somewhere around 1 Amp and the voltage never gets to the Accept voltage. The charger stays in Bulk charge mode and just dribbles power into the system. If I start the boat engine, the voltage increases to the Accept point quickly, the system switches to Acceptance charging mode, and the charge current hovers around 15Amps and slowly reduces (as it should). If I then stop the engine the voltage again drops to 13.8V and continues to fall until it reaches 13.1V at which point the system switches back to Bulk charge mode and dribbles back up to 13.8V. Is there any adjustment or setting that could be causing this? I'm very keen to get it sorted out as I don't want to damage my new batteries. Cheers Greg.

SOURCE: I have a motor home with a Trace inverter/charger.

More than likely you may a a relay that is stuck or not energizing which should switch the charging mode over automatically. Trace back from the generator to the charging circuit for the batteries. I'm not sure where the relay (or solinoid) would be located but you can be assured it is something in the charger sensing/switching circuit.

Your numbers don't add up. Where are you 'seeing' 200volts. Your lap top power supply transformer uses 120 volts AC. Are you plugged into a 240 volt outlet or something? Your inverter should be 12 or 24 volts DC input; to AC power usually 120 volts AC. Check out you output plug, should read 110 - 120 volts AC

I have had a Heart Freedom 10 for over 10 years and have found it to be very reliable though slightly lacking in power if th a/c (just plugged in to fwd AC breaker)is on and I lose shore power or gen..
As MT1 says apply AC power to your main input then check the cooresponding pop up circut breaker for pwr in and through. your should get a transformer hum if power is getting to it and a depleted battery is hooked up. If you have a charged battery and a link you should get a led light and or a fault code of either a sequenced blinking light or a readout on the better remotes.
If this is not avilable just check all of the installed breakers for continuity before sending it in for repair as the shipping alone to and backwill be approx.$100.
Good luck. I am looking to upgrade to a freedom 20 now. There is a sell price on the net of $864.

Yes, just be sure connections are heavy enough wire, and obviously the inverter uses 12 vdc input. Hook jumper wires positive to positive, negative to negative, on all 12 volt batteries. Deep cycle batteries will work better than car batteries. Just remember, when re-charging them, that they last longer when charged slowly, so don't use a high amp setting on charger and to monitor them closely, and do it in a well ventilated area, away from any ignition sources.

I need a replacement comm board for a Xantrex Freedom Marine 25-12 Inverter/Charger. The battery temp sensor got shorted out and probably caused damage to the installed comm board.

I have the same unit that the charging function just died on. If I can't fix it and have to buy a new one, you can have my comm board for free. Should know my status in ~ a week .

Inverter seems to be working but batteries aren't

is the bateries draining quikly?, if so try redusing the load on the inverter ,always make sure it is fully charged before use.

There is no ac output coming from the Freedom 25 inverter.

Assuming it was working correctly at some time in the recent past (i.e. not a new installation and/or changed wiring), the "Invert" light is off on the panel and will not come on when you press the button, battery voltage is between 10V and 15V and you don't have a bad battery/cell that pulls the entire bank down the instant the charging voltage is removed, and the unit is well-ventilated and not in thermal overload, the problem is most likely an internal failure which will necessitate taking the unit to a factory authorized service center, since Xantrex does not sell parts or schematics to the general public.

Our Inverter works but the battery charger seems to trip out everytime we try to charge the batteries.

There is no way to guess what the problem is, we technicians use a multimeter to look at the electrical circuit values to determine the problem. The charging circuit could be bad, or the batteries could be shorted.

if it does not start, the inverter control or power transistors that do the switching may be bad

if the charger will not charge the batteries, it means the charger is bad or the fuse for the charger is broken

Xantrex Freedom 458 Combi inverter/charger 2000 watt

OK my 2000 Discovery does the same thing. Try and hit the inverter charger with your fist 3-4 times, then listen and see if the charger fan starts up. I will be bringing my inverter to Portland this week to have the tech look at it. The other thing is it could be the transfer switch. Will let you know.
