Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.

Unable to upgrade onboard graphics on dell gx520

Try disabling your onboard graphics in the BIOS. Some BIOS allow this. If you have a sound card, disable the onboard sound too. Count your beeps. they contain a code. Go online and "Google" bios codes. This should give you a starting point to diagnose the problem.

if you have it in the proper pci express slot and it malfunctioning, it may be your power core unable to power the card. check your power supply to see if the wattage is enough to run this card.

Your video card memory went bad, has to be replaced,
You have to have it serviced, you can take it to Best Buy to have it serviced if you don't want to pay the premium from the vender!

Unless you can see the little safe mode text in all 4 corners then it sounds like the computer IS in regular windows, but the video card drivers are gone. Try re-installing the video card drivers from Dell for that particular video card (there are several possibilities) and see if that helps. It is possible the video card is going bad, but usually re-installing the video drivers works.
This could be a sign of other problems too- start with the video drivers and see if that helps. If it does not- I'm guessing the operating system is corrupt, virused, or the video card is going bad.

Trying to hook this monitor to dell inspiron 6000

You always need a driver for things to work. Look in your device manager.
Right click (my computer) go to properties then device manager and look at you video to see if there is a question mark for the driver.

Sounds like it might be getting too hot and/or going bad. Not sure how to diagnose this without seeing it myself. That is the best that I can do. Your video card could be going bad. Try another video card on that monitor. This will be the only way to decide if it is the card or monitor. Try it on another machine and see what it does.

Problem!

jopster:
Never screw or un screw or even try to open up computer and work while the power is ON.
If everything is working fine on your system then I suggest not to worry. But if your video is completly gone we need to diagnose the video card (as I assume you have installed the fan and heat sink over video card??)
Hope that helped!
