Squealing at the right front wheel

The brake lining's have worn away, the squealing was metal to metal (worn pad against metal disc) The worn pad will have damaged the brake disc. Very dangerous. You will now have to have new brake pads and discs fitted to BOTH front wheels to put it right. Good luck

Driver's side front brake became suddenly stuck ( and mildly smoking) on my 1991 ford aerostar xl that has been excellently maintained. The 'Rear Anti-Lock' brake light came on yesterday and stayed on, and...

yes baby it to him and replace both calipers and rotors as they will work better with your new brake pads. Do Not Do a half a job when it comes to brakes. its your family you are dealing with. calipers are cheap rotors are cheaper and pads are also cheap. its 3 hours labour to do a complete front brake job and rear brakes take 2 hours. with new shoes turn drums replace wheel cylinders and new rear brake hardware price in Canadian for front brakes under 400 price for rear under 250 American parts prices slightly different but labour times the same

Change brake pads

For starters the front and rear us disk pads and it is not hard to do. On the front jack up the front and us jack stand for safety. After you take of the wheel remove the two bolts at the back of the brake caliper remove the caliper and then the old pads us a C- clamp with one of the old pads installed in the caliper then just us the c-clamp to push the cylinder all the way in until it will go no further install new pads put back on. But before you do the next side hit the brake to push the cylinder back out. Go to other side do the same thing. On a side not you only need to replace the rear brakes every other time you do the front. The front wear twice as fast as they do most of the stopping.

I just got an estimate have all 4 rotars "machined" and brake pads replaced - parts and labor were quoted at $542.40. Does this seem like a fair price.

These parts are brand new from autozone...Front brake rotor=90.00 for 2...rear rotor=60.00 for 2.....brake pads front=30.00/set...brake pads rear = 25.00/set...total = 205.00 parts
so the labor is 337.40....and the parts I looked up are not machined but NEW!!!...maybe you should do the work yourself....337 seems like alot of money....I do brakes for $50.00 labor per axle...especially if you are replacing all the parts...it's not very hard to accomplish...the front rotors easily pop off when you take off the caliper(which has to come off to do the pads) and then the rears are not really too difficult either...My opinion...either do it yourself or get another estimate...maybe there's an out of work backyard maechanic on your street you can give the job to..or if your in the indiana area...call me ...i'd be happy to do the work for ya 2196972613jeffrey

The brakes, when pressed in the front, seem to not stop and slide , brake lights will not come on, transmission shift makes noise when shifting from park to driveand to reverse. I have taken my vehicle...

Brakes - most common is brake pads were replaced with non-OEM pads and/or rotors were machined during the brake service. Use OEM brakes pads and replace, instead of machining, rotors. Again, use OEM parts for best results. GM recommends replacing rotors during brake service on that model, similar to European models. Unfortunately, GM has not priced the rotors as the Europeans have priced theirs.
Transmission noise - I am assuming a "clunk" noise when shifted while at a stop, also known as "garage shift". Most common is the bushings in the rear differential housing mounts. They may look OK upon inspection but when removed they will be split. Second common is similar issue with transmission mount itself, although that is quite rare.
Brake lights - Any competent automotive electrical repair facility should be able to diagnose this as there is an open in the circuit somewhere. That system is relatively simple and stratagy based diagnosis should lead the technician to the problem.

In 2004 Impala, do I have rotor or drums?

The best way to answer you question is to tell you to take the vehicle to your nearest dealer and inquire with the parts dept. I can tell you that on the ffront of your car you have rotors and the brake used on the front is called a pad. Also your vehicle does not have a separate parking brake. It is the same as the regular rear brake no matter which type of brakes you have on the back.
