Ice Maker stopped working

The freezer door was left ajar for several hours, the freezer frosted over and then the ice maker stopped working.
I defrosted the water line and that did not help.
How do you tell if the water valve needs to be replaced?

You need to defrost the freezer. By the door being ajar, there was excessive ice build up on the coil that was not removed during a system defrost resulting in a blocked coil. This caused the temperature to rise in the freezer above twelve degrees that is why the ice maker stopped.
