Jenn-Air Side-by-side Refrigeration not making ice and leaks water underneath when ice maker arm is up

I have a Jenn-Air side-by-side refrigerator with ice maker, model: JSD2789DEB. The ice maker recently stopped working and when the ice maker arm is up, it leaks water underneath. There is no water/ice inside the refrigerator so the drain is not a problem. There is no water in the ice cube maker assembly either. Any ideas?

With the arm up in the ice tray, the water solenoid valve should be closed. When the arm drops, that tells the ice maker to open the water solenoid valve to fill the ice maker tray. It sound like the leak is at the inlet side of the water solenoid valve. On some models its not easy to get to, but follow the water line to it. Hope this is it for you. Good luck.

Sorry, I totally mis-wrote that. The leak only happens when the arm is down. Also, whether the arm is up or down, water will still come out of the water dispenser in the freezer and does not cause leaking.

That last sentence should have said "using the water dispenser does not cause leaking."

The water line to the refrigerator is normally only 1/4 inch. with the water dispenser open the pressure would drop off at the valve inlet. I still think the valve inlet is where your leak is at. Especially because it stops when using the water dispenser. No water being fed to the tray, I think is a separate problem. Mineral build up in those valves is a common problem and your line to the ice maker may be plugged as well as the leak. There are some really good techs. here. If anyone here would like to add an opinion for Ketsuda, I would never be insulted trouble shooting a problem. Please feel free to jump in. Check that water valve Ketsuda, I think you will find the inlet leaking and a problem on the outlet to the tray. I would check the valve over if I were there. Hope this helps! Let me know what you find. ---------Roger.

You could have a layer of solid ice at the bottom of your icetray which is binding everything up. Remove ice tray and any ice from the bottom. Reinstall and be careful of the connection on the back of the ice tray, you may have to turn it a little to get it to mesh correctly. refill and try. Good luck.

SOURCE: jenn air side by side refrigerator ice maker not working

On mine the water inlet feed tube would freeze solid. Removing the ice tray and using a hair dryer to completely thaw the tube would get it working for another month or so. My frig had a solid rubber inlet tube. I noticed at the appliance store that newer models had an inlet tube that was split on top. I got one of these from a local appliance parts store, and it fixed the problem. The tube replacement it easy. Get to the back of the frig. Turn off the water supply. Carefully pry the white plastic piece out ( located on the upper right side when facing the back of the frig. ) of the frig. When you have the new one in hand it will be clear what you are going to do. Pull out the old remove the water line. Attach the line to the new tube and insert it. Turn on water, check for leaks, and you should be ok. This repair is only effective if you have an inlet tube that freezes up. There can be many other malfunctions that stop ice makers from working. This was my problem. Replaced the tube 3 years ago and ice maker has worked fine since the replacement.

It sounds like the tube you speak of is frozen with ice, so it expanded the tube. Try unplugging the refrigerator and allow or help the ice in the tube to melt. You likely need a new hose, as when water freezes it expands and it likely expanded the hose, which is why it will not stay on securely. ( I don't know without seeing it, but this seems plausible to me)

first you should take the water feed off, clear all water out of tube going to ice maker.remoe ice maker and check the wiring and all looks good.hook water up,turn water on just enough to see you have waterflow yo ice maker.might need a towel or two in the freezer.replace icemaker, make sure bar on ice maker is down, turn water on full, give it 12hrs to make ice. good water flow-no ice--replace ice maker.

Check that there wasn't a clog in the line after replacing the filter. Make sure you get water going to the solenoid, if so, it may either be a clog in the solenoid or a fluke that it's no longer working.
