Staples shredder spl-exc8a

Such appliances often have one or more hidden screws, hidden by control knobs/switches, rubber feet, stuck on labels, plastic plugs that need drilling and so forth. It is usual to find at least one screw is anti-tamper and needs a driver of an unusual pattern.

Dismantling many modern appliances need detective skills...

Domestic standard shredders produce a lot of dust and small paper pieces that must be periodically cleaned out if efficiency is to be maintained and paper is very abrasive and soon dulls blades causing the motor to need to work harder.

Once cleaned out a brief spray with a silicone dry lubricant will restore performance but leave it for a while after spraying to allow the flammable propellant to disperse.

Auto setting will not work on Staples SPL-EXC8A

Cleaning of the paper sensors is essential. Blowing on the center of the paper insert area will clear the paper fibers near the sensor but not all. Since my shredder was way past warranty, I opted to remove the 7 screws on the back of shredder mechanism, gingerly remove the shredding mechanism from its seat and there I found, wedged in between one of the sensors, a solitary paper fiber. That ominous, evil paper fiber was wedged in so tight that even the jet engine blasts from a 747 aircraft would have not dislodged the paper fiber. Making use of a Qtip, I dislodged the paper fiber, cleaned out all remaining paper fibers in and around the inside of the housing, then reassembled the unit. It has worked satisfactorily since then.

Staples SPL-770M shredder with overheat light even when cool

Just a FYI: I had the same problem. Nothing appeared jammed. But I took the housing cover off and low and behold the rubber roller that turns the shredders had MELTED to the inside. That's why it wouldn't work. This happened while shredding a single DVD - something I had done effortlessly on numerous occasions. You may want to check to see if the roller melted or if some debris has jammed up inside the unit, like mine did often.
