Im trying to set this up as an access point. but it will not fine a ip from the router

Most router wont act as a DHCP client (Get an IP address) on their own.

You need to go into the Belkin setup and set it to an IP address in the range of your other router.

For example:
If your PC is getting (connected to the same network) an IP address of 192.168.0.3 IP and a Default Gateway address of 192.168.0.1 you can set the Belkin with any adderss between 192.168.0.10 & 192.168.0.254. Changing the last octet (set of numbers after the 3rd period) to the desired address.

How to secure the wireless network

You want to secure the wireless network.
Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router with the cable.
Check the IP address on the computer. Open the router set up page.
Once you open the set up page, you will find the option to make it secured

Symptom You are trying to access the Belkin router’s Web based Configuration page and you are not able to do so. You can access the Configuration page from any computer behind the router.
Resolution To address this issue, follow the instructions below:
  1. First check for the physical connections between the computer and the router. There should be a cable (cat5 or above) running from one of the LAN port of the router to the Ethernet card in the computer.
  2. If the computer is wireless, it should be associated to the Router/AP.
  3. Check for any firewalls (Mcafee, Norton Internet Security) on the computer, which should be disabled.
  4. Check for an IP Address on the computer in the range of the router i.e. 192.168.2.x (x can range from 2 to 254). The router also assigns an automatic IP address to the computers in the range 192.168.2.x (x can range from 2 to 100). For instructions on how to check the IP address on the computer, Refer to Article 13.
  5. If you are not getting an IP Address on the computer from the router you will need to manually assign an IP Address to the computer.
  6. You also need to restore the Internet Explorer browser to its default settings.
  7. Go to Control Panel and click Internet options. Select the Program Tab and click on Reset Web Settings.
You should be able to get the router's configuration page if the above instructions are followed in order.
Cause You not being able to logon to the router's configuration page could be due to the following reasons:
  1. The computer is not able to establish connectivity with the router (wired or wireless). This can happen due to physical reasons E.g.: Improper cabling, bad cable, and no wireless signals.
  2. The computer not getting an automatic IP address from the router (DHCP ** assigned).
  3. Firewalls (Mcafee, Norton Internet Security) on the computer blocking the communication between the computer and the router.
  4. Improper browser settings (Internet Explorer)
** Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
Summary The Router is a configurable device and you can manually log into the router’s configuration page to set its various operating parameters like connection type, security features and options to update the router’s firmware.

Configuration of Belkin Wireless Router F5D6231

Whoops, found it. http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/f5d6231-4_manual.pdf

If I were setting this up for myself or a customer, I'd keep the Airtel IP's and let it be the DHCP server. To do this, you pick a fixed IP address for the Belkin, something like 192.168.1.251. Log into the Belkin and change the LAN IP address to that and turn off DHCP. Those instructions start on pdf page 34.

Now, plug one of the 4 ports into the Airtel, and from a computer connected to the network type in 192.168.1.251 in Internet Explorer. It should get you to the Belkin where you finish setting it up for wireless security and password from page 38.

You won't use the WAN port.

Make sure your physical connection is correct. From the modem, the ethernet cable should plugged in to the Internet/WAN port of the router. And your computer to port 1. Access the setup page of the router again and Enable the MAC Address Clone setting. Clone the MAC Address of your PC there then power cycle the router and modem. You should be all set.

Belkin F5D8233-4 router & I pod touch wifi

What I would try is while the wifi is unsecure go on the computer and open up the browser you are using, on your router the default ip address is 192.168.2.1moz-screenshot.jpg

type the router default ip address in the browser where you would normally type a web address www.google.com

Logging into the Router
You will see the Router’s home page in your browser window. The home page is visible to any user who wants to see it. To make any changes to the Router’s settings, you have to log in. Clicking the
“Login” button or clicking on any one of the links on the home page will take you to the login screen. The Router ships with no password entered. In the login screen, leave the password blank and click the
“Submit” button to log in.
Configuring the Wireless Network Settings
The “Wireless” tab lets you make changes to the wireless network settings. From this tab you can make changes to the wireless network name or Service Set Identifier (SSID), operating channel, encryption security settings, and configure the Router to be used as an access point.
Setting up an Allow Access List
1. Select the “Allow” radio button (1) to begin setting up a list of
computers allowed to connect to the wireless network.
2. Next, in the “MAC Address” field that is blank (3), type in the
MAC address of the wireless computer you want to be able to
access the wireless network, then click “<<Add” (4).
3. Continue to do this until all of the computers you want to add
have been entered.
4. Click “Apply Changes” (5) to finish.

this will allow only the wireless device you select to access your router.
