Question about Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines

1 Answer

We have a Community Policing group who use small 2 way radios to communicate. The reception is very bad, but we were told that the more people who had wirelesses, the better the reception would be. This doesn't seem to be the case. Please advise if this advice was correct or do we need a repeater station?

The number of units doesn't determine the quality of reception. If they meant to say that the more units you have, the more chances you can relay the messages to other units: then may be, but this sounds like a salesman pitch to me. If you have small handheld units, you are limited to short range and if you want to extend your range, a repeater is one solution. I hope this clarifies things a bit.

Best buy installed radio & speakers bad reception told by installer factory wired wrong true or false can i get new harness & instructions where & price

Best Buy has a pretty good reputation for installing aftermarket radios and they generally use a new harness connected to the old harness to make it work right.

I would try to have the reception issue fixed by Best Buy before the warranty runs out.

How long ago did you have it worked on?

I'm sure they will make it right if you take it back.

Even, if it requires changing out the radio.

Have them check that the antenna is properly connected to the back of the radio.

I have a basic 40-channel cobra cb radio and 2 four foot firestik whips mounted in the stake holes of my truck. I have dual 18 ft. coax connecting the two which is ran through 2 small holes near my door,...

You should check the coax cables for damage . ALso, did you attach the PL-259 connectors yourself to the coax cables? They can be tricky. You need to check for loose or bad connections between coax cable and connector.
Of course it could be the radio itself went bad on you. Check this with a friend; when you connect his radio to your antenna system, does everything work then? Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm about 40 miles NW of Chicago and reception here is not great. I like to listen to AM radio. I usually use my speakers just to listen to CD's, but I decided to try my Acoustic Research receivers...

First make certain the CD player isn't on when the radio is on. CD players cause inteferance with radio's. Apart from that you will need a good aerial. If that doesn't improve it then it could be down to local conditions -hills, power lines etc, blocking the signal. Also check there's nothing around the house that might cause interferance to the signal.

Improve reception

HI there,

Well Yes you can improve the reception, please follow the below steps -

Improve FM Radio Reception -

1. If you don't have an antenna connected to your FM receiver, purchase a simple dipole antenna--a simple T-shape flexible wire-- and connect it to the FM antenna inputs on the receiver. Because FM signals are directional, you'll want to experiment with the positioning of the wire to find the best reception of the station you're trying to receive.

2. If you're still not getting a good signal, try an indoor amplified antenna, which you'll find at an electronics store. Don't buy one unless you get a guarantee that you can return it for full credit if it doesn't solve your reception problems.

3. If your signal is weak because you live a long way from the transmitter, install an outside antenna and mount it as high as is practical. If you're primarily interested in getting signals from one station or from a group of stations in one direction, get a directional antenna and point it toward the transmitters.

4. If you're using a portable FM radio where the only antenna is the power cord, stretch the cord as straight as possible and experiment with positioning again.

5. Temporarily switch to monaural mode to improve a weak signal on an FM receiver.

Improve AM Reception -

1. Gradually rotate the radio 360 degrees. Leave it in the position where it sounds best.

2. Reverse the AC plug if it isn't polarized. (If you can flip the plug over, then it's non-polarized.)

3. Plug the radio into a different AC outlet.

4. Move the radio closer to a window.

5. Experiment to learn if appliances and powered products in your home are causing interference: computer monitor, television, electric blanket, light dimmer, fluorescent light, hair dryer, air conditioner, smoke detector. If possible, turn off the offending item. Otherwise, move the radio to another room.

6. Upgrade to an external antenna if your receiver, tuner or radio has a place to connect one.

7. Buy a passive AM antenna that doesn't need to be connected to a radio or receiver.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Radio Problem

There is not an easy answer for this one. Some troubleshooting needs to be done. I have seen the Rockford Fosgate system in many of the newer Sentra's. Try hooking a known working speaker to a nonworking position. This will tell if it is a speaker problem. If the problem persists, this could be stereo or amplifier.
Terrible reception troubleshooting, a bad antenna will give poor FM and no AM. If both have bad reception, this is a stereo problem. You can remove the stereo from the dash, place a small pick tool or screwdriver into the antenna jack and test reception. If the reception problem clears, this is a antenna problem. I have seen car detailers pull the connector from the rear window antenna and forget to plug it back in too.

Bad reception

I see you've already read the "Troubleshooting" section of the manual! The only other things I can think of to check would be the actual connection between the radio (aka head unit) and the antenna. It's usually just a press-fit connection behind the radio, but if it's loose, corroded, or is touching some other metal, it could affect the reception.
There's also the small possibility something changed at the transmitter tower for the radio station. That happened in my area once, where they changed the direction in which most of the signal power was being broadcast. Westside reception got better, eastside reception got worse.
