Question about Whirlpool Freezers

1 Answer

Whirlpool EV170NYLB00 upright freezer has a problem with water collecting at very bottom (inside) of freezer, then freezing in a solid sheet of ice, so when further water drains, it comes right out onto the floor. I have had to simply pry the large sheet of ice out of the bottom every couple of days to prevent this from occurring (easy to do, but a pain.) What is the issue do you think? Is there a drain hole that might be plugged? Some other issue? Thanks

I have had this same problem with model EV209NBT Q 01. We have problem getting
service in this area. Never did get it fixed under warrenty. I kept finding water in floor and did not think about it coming from a new freezer. I will think twice about about buying any more Whirlpool. Lana K 1/08/2012

Check the rubber seal inside/around the door. I bet you have a tear or piece of seal that isn't making a solid fit and it's allowing (warm) room air into you freezer. This moist room air will either turn to water droplets and builds up to enough droplets to form puddles in the bottom of the freezer, or it freezes into a blob of ice around the door seal and this allows warm room air into the freezer. Otherwise you need an Appliance Tech to check the Freon refrigerant level. Most times its the door seal causing this problem.

Our Whirlpool upright freezer has a sheet of ice in bottom at drain--why?

Melt it again, and check it runs down the small drain hole, If not, clear the hole with a drinking straw. If it keeps freexing up, you may need an auxiliary heater added to the drain hole.

I have a Whirlpool Model EV 200N Upright Freezer which is having ice freeze on the bottom of the freezer. What can I do?

If there is frost forming at the bottom to the door, your door gasket is leaking at that location. You may be able to relax gasket back in place with hair dryer, be carefull you can melt gasket. If it is sheets of ice, your defrost drain may be frozen

Freezer model EV171NYMS04 we have ice build up on

There is a drain the back of the freezer that is frozen. Your trickle of water comes from the ice that melts off of the refrigeration coils during the defrost cycle. You need to turn off the freezer, then remove the rear cover from the back wall to expose the coils. With a hair dryer, melt all of the ice. You will find a drain under the coils. Melts all of the ice in this drain so water can get out of the freezer. When this drain is clear, you can put everything back together, and your freezer should work normally.

My upright freezer has a small amount of water inside that freezes, creating an ice slide in bottom.

look at the bottom of your freezer, you will find a small hole or opening, it is a drain exit point of your defrosted water, try to clean it, maybe there is a small object bocking up the way or the hose all away down
