Sounds like the video chip has gone bad on the motherboard, may have to have a motherboard replacement..to test, connect and external monitor and see if you get a picture.

Try using the function key for your display options

You should see a key related to your function key, generally a different color then the rest, labeled (F, Fun, FN, etc...) then look for a CRT/LCD, or LCD, or a symbol of a rounded square, or something resembling a monitor or screen.

Hold Fn and press that button, give it a few seconds. It should switch.

You can also hold a flash light up to the screen and see if there's any image, if this is the case then parts need to be replaced.

If you have any more questions please let us know. If this information has been helpful, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thank you.

SOURCE: How do you reset the power on password on a Compaq

You need to take out the RTC battery. First, unplug the computer, next remove the large battery, finally do the following

1. Prepare the computer for disassembly (above)
2. Remove the memory/Mini PCI module compartment cover
3. Remove the Mini PCI communications module
4. Remove the RTC battery from the socket on the
system board.
5. Removing the RTC Battery for 10 minutes
Reverse the above procedure to install an RTC battery.

Removing the RTC battery resets the BIOS which resets the password.

Common problem with those laptops is that the graphics chip over heats and causes the solder points to crack thus giving a blank screen.

It is as a result of Compaq/HP trying to save a few pennys and using a cheap method of attaching the chip. It is possible to fix it temporary but it would only last a few weeks before it goes again.

Hp compaq 7620s wont start ( constant blinking blue light )

The adapter output appears correct, the batteries often work in that voltage range. But the problem you have is the motherboard, the HP line has constant trouble with the main board, only option is board replacement.

I have hp compaq nc 6220 when i press power button i hear processor fan spining and power LED and other LED are on but it doesn't display, it display after several attept of power it on

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

My compaq Evo n610c my battery wont charge when on ac power. The light for when the battery wont go on.

sounds like your DC coonector came loose from the system board.it is a common problem with laptops,

Problem symptoms:

  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
here is how to repair:

I have a laptop which is hp widows vista, compaq 6720s. my little boy went on it and the screen side is has crack and doesn't work. what should i do HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO FIX IT

The replacement panels for the Compaq 6720s range between $85.00 USD and $110.00 USD depending on where you order them from. The replacement is a relatively easy procedure, but I don't recommend it for a first-time novice do-it-yourselfer.
Here are links to some places where you can order the display panel:
http://www.blisscomputers.net/hp-compaq-6720s-laptop-lcd-screen-15-4-wxga-glossy-ccfl.aspx
http://www.screencountry.com/index.php?section=products&model=HP%20COMPAQ%206720S&brand=HP-Compaq

Now the good news is you can still use your laptop if you have an external monitor. You can use the appropriate "Fn" key combination to switch your display output to the external device. I believe for the Compaq 6720 is the "Fn" key & the "F4" key. Connect the external monitor then power on your machine, Press the Fn and F4 key simultaneously until you get the display showing on the external device.
One more thing, you will need to go set the laptop to not do anything when the lid is closed. You can do this via Start -> Control Panel -> Power Settings. Change the custom power settings for both "A/C" Power and "Battery Power" to "do nothing" when the lid is closed. By doing so, you can close the laptop lid without shutting off the computer. Of course you will need to add an external mouse and keyboard to continue using the computer, but by following these instructions, you can basically use the laptop, even with a damaged screen, pretty much the same way you would use a desktop. The portability is lost, but the function is retained until you can have a new display panel installed.
Hope this helps FixYa! Please take some time to leave some feedback and a testimonial if you found this information helpful.

Have you checked that the power supply is giving charge to the computer, sounds like it's trying to run on battery power, but if the 'power brick' isn'rt working properly, this can give the symptoms you describe

they're hard. if you haven't done it before its not worth it. not only the front bezel need removing but the whole laptop ripped apart this is due to the bending in the design on the power plate.
