SATA hard disc compatibility

I have a 250 GB, 5400 RPM SATA hard drive from a damaged Toshiba Qosmio G40-12C laptop, operating with a Core2 Duo T7500, 2048 MB + 1024 MB memory, 667 Mhz and 512 MB VRAM. My question is, can I slot this drive into any other Qosmio that is SATA? The reason I say this is because the disc drive in the old laptop is broken and I cannot use a recovery disc to access my data . So I need a computer with a functioning disk drive to recover the data from the HDD. I have already retrieved some data from it using an enclosure, but it says the C drive is damaged, so I need to use the special Spotmau software I have bought to try and get access to it. That needs a functioning disk drive
The latest model I want to buy is a Qosmio G50, which has a 320 GB HDD, but I do no know if that would be compatible with the HDD I have already. Or can any SATA HDD be fitted into any laptop that is also SATA and still function. Thanks.
