Question about Computers & Internet

SATA hard disc compatibility

I have a 250 GB, 5400 RPM SATA hard drive from a damaged Toshiba Qosmio G40-12C laptop, operating with a Core2 Duo T7500, 2048 MB + 1024 MB memory, 667 Mhz and 512 MB VRAM. My question is, can I slot this drive into any other Qosmio that is SATA? The reason I say this is because the disc drive in the old laptop is broken and I cannot use a recovery disc to access my data . So I need a computer with a functioning disk drive to recover the data from the HDD. I have already retrieved some data from it using an enclosure, but it says the C drive is damaged, so I need to use the special Spotmau software I have bought to try and get access to it. That needs a functioning disk drive
The latest model I want to buy is a Qosmio G50, which has a 320 GB HDD, but I do no know if that would be compatible with the HDD I have already. Or can any SATA HDD be fitted into any laptop that is also SATA and still function. Thanks.

Thank you for the advice Chris - I will do as you suggest and see what I can get from the enclosure and recovery software. Have a good day.

Actually, there are two good reasons not to swap that drive into the new laptop,

First, you never want to boot from or install software to a drive you're trying to recover as everything you do to/with the drive runs the risk of causing further damage.

Second even if it weren't for the damage, you simply aren't likely to have the right drivers unless both laptops are the exact same model.

My suggestion is just get the new laptop you want, then attach the damaged drive with the enclosure to the new laptop then run your recovery software. If that doesn't work, you will likely need the help of a Pro.

Try Armor-IT Data Recovery, they are listed in the FixYa database and service clients from all over North and South America.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Sounds like the drive has croaked. You can get the data but expect to spend upwards of $1000 or more to a data recovery company.

You can change the region code on your DVD player only 4 times, then it will lock on that region permanently.

Toshiba says I have a bad hard drive in my l305D-s5897. What hard drive will replace it?

The factory HDD was a 250 gb 5400 rpm sata hard drive.
I would recommend to at least get the same speed (5400 RPM) the important part is that you get a sata and not an IDE hard drive. If you are having it repaired under warranty this is the one that will replace it.
I was going to say if you were going to do the repair yourself I would say to upgrade the storage space. The price of HDD goes down everyday. Hope this helps if you want the spec sheet to your pc you can click HERE

Well me cd dvd romdose not work well the drive dose but it dose not read my cds

Please check the connection inside maybe it is just loose. If that is SATA connection that is prone to disconnection but if that is IDE cable inside maybe cable loose contack. Try to open the PC and then pull and insert the cable firmly. Restart the computer.
