Dishwasher is not draining and is flooding out the side

The water is going all over thr floor and water will continue to flood unless main water shut off valve is turned off. This happened once Saturday. We emptied washer and hit drain, it drained. Did a quick wash and nothing happened. Did another normal wash all was fine but last night Tuesday at night the normal wash had a flood problem again.
This time more water and I hit cancel & drain, but 2 minutes later the program was off and no light was lite. I hit drain again and shut off water and it did drain. Please help we took off spinnner and all seems fine. No clogs and we can't find what is the matter. Help!!!!!
Thanks Kris

It sounds like the float valve is clogged and or you have a timer problem (which is way down on the list of probabilities...very rare...last thing to happen generally ...but not impossible.)....on the floor of the DW is a round Mushroom looking float valve that rises with the water and shuts the water off at a specific time...usually when full....it often gets gunk in it...(soap...debris...etc) and it sticks in the down...too much water...or in the up...no water....position...take it off...just lift up...and listen for a clicking noise...check to see if it is clean...if not clean it and replace it...push it up and down listening for the clicking noise...if you don't hear one...then it may not be making contact with the contactor...check to see that it does...and it it is and no contact noise with movement replace the contact.

Also some DW's have a sump (drain ) area where water collects to drain...sometimes debris collects in this area....and inhibits drainage...check to see that no debris (careful could be broken glass) is inhibiting drainage.

Hope this helps....and good luck...let me know if it does not... thanks for rating my effort...The Fang.

Why doesn't my dishwasher spray?

Wash motor may be faulty or the wash arms are clogged.
But if it simply fills and drains continuously then the flood switch has triggered. There could be water leakage which floods the base. Turn the dishwasher off form mains power. Pull out and tilt to one side to get water out. Then after a wait of few hours to allow things to dry, reconnect and see.

Flood switch 920 model

Not sure what the actual model number is but usually the F1 error with Fisher and Paykel dishwasher means water has entered the flood switch located at the base. This could be due to leaky hoses or water leaking through the door or lid seal. Wait for a day or two until the water evaporates and try again. Otherwise you will have to dry out the flood switch and then try again. Location of flood switch will depend on your model. For double drawer dishwasher you will have to take the bottom drawer out from the housing and the switch is on the floor of housing. But make sure you take the mains power chord out before touching the insides of dishwasher. Will also need to find the cause of the leak. Other reason for F1 could be loss of power to top dishdrawer if you have double drawer. But in that case the top drawer will have no lights on. The power board is located on the base of housing under bottom drawer. Once again do not touch inside of dishwasher without shutting off mains power.

Our fisher and paykel dishdrawer won't wash. It comes up with F1 and flashing light on control panel.

the dynamo dishwashing stuff has caused foaming which reached the base of the dishdrawer unit causing the flood switch to trip. This gives F1 error.
Not sure how much foaming has occured.

Best to turn off power and take power cable out from socket. then empty the drawer using towels. pull out the bottom drawer and wait a day or so to let the foam disappear from the bottom of dishwasher (under the bottom drawer). Connect the power and see if F1 had gone. If not, you need more work. Post a comment based on the above suggestion and I will guide you further if required. Always use Finish dishwasher power only (recommended quantity) as the drawers are small and don't need much detergent.

Bosch dishwasher shx46a06uc-30

the unit will try to complete the last command it was engage in before it went in the overfill safety mode. you must perform a cancel drain cycle to reset unit to default setting. Remember the drain cycle is 2 min and must be completed to reset main control. however if it went into a overfill status you have a leak and it generally comes from the pressure chamber on the lefthand side of unit where the water enters tub

What type of dishwasher do you have? Has your kitchen floor flooded? If it has. The tray under dish washer isn't water tight. Moisture creates some unusual problems. Some of newer dish washer the there control panel under the top of door this also create problem especially if the switches are on the top of the door. Another moisture problem. I have repaired a new Electrolux dish was three times in less than 6 months. The floor would flood from the Maytag side load washing machine. The Madam of the house didn't tell me that the washing machine flooded the kitchen floor. No window in the door and sometime fill water solenoid would stick and fill the tube. When they open washing machine door, 12 gallons of water would spill. So I fix both of them. GB...stewbison

7blink on the end of programdiod. After a leak. I have fixed it takes no water in and the dischargepump run. Electrolux ESF6221. How to fixe it?

you have either a faulty flood switch or due to leak water has collected in the flood switch which shuts of the water inlet valve and operates the drain pump.

If you can get the dishwasher out from under the sink and after turning the power off tilt the dishwasher from side to side. If water has collected in the flood switch that will come out and after a little while turn on power and see if dishwasher works.

Drain pump

Switch off at the mains. Take a side panel off and tip your dishwater over 45degrees towards th open side. Make sure you put towels down to soak up the water that will come out of the base. This will reset the flood detector. Reassemble. Switch back on and let the dishwasher finish its cycle and away you go. Remember this does not solve the reason for the flooding but it will get your dishwasher going again. Depending on the cause of flooding you may only need to reset like this once a year.

Water flooding out

Hi KellyW,

The dishwasher drain hose may be clogged.  When the dishwashr starts up can you hear the water running into the Sink faucet drain. If not inspect the hose that attaches to the Sink Drain for restrictions.  Also in the bottom of the dishwasher you should have a filter.  If this filter is clogged you cannot expel water.  Clean the filter.
