Dryer making sqeaking noise

greetings,
the most likely answer is the belt pulley..the rollers can also make noise, but they usually will make a thump thump noise..remove belt pulley and lubricate and see if this helps

The dryer started making a noise and I need to open the top to look into the drum...can someone tell me how to open the top of Frigidaire GLER642AS2?

assuming it is like most dryers, it has a top sepaate from the base. with gentle prying at the front corners, the top should pop up and then lift up and flip back on hinge clips at the rear. as far as the sqeaks, usually lubricating the rollers and tension pulley solves the sqeaking problem.
a screwdriver is usually enough to pop the top, but be careful not to chip the enameled paint. a plastic or wooden wedge works well also.
good luck....jay

Sqeaking dryer

Find a heat resistant grease. It must say heat resistant. Then you will need snap ring pliers. The rollers are behind the drum, the whole machine must be taken apart, no fun. While apart, vacuum everything. Note how the belt goes before you take it off. A few extra screws while you're in there will expose the fan area. You will be suprised what you can find there.

Amana dryer sqeaks at start up

Going in through the front is usually an absolute last resort when working on white goods. Based on experience with other machines (I don't know yours):

If you pull the dryer out then tip it back a bit, you may be able to get to some of the components through the bottom.

There is almost certainly a large access panel on the back (probably your best way in if you have belt problems).

Working from the back of the machine, if you take some of the top edge trim off, you will probably be able to get the top cover off if you need to.
