Question about Bose Companion 2 Computer Speakers

1 Answer

Popping sound from right speaker

I have the Bose Companion 2 speaker system and have had no issues with them. I just changed my isp and have had their equipment installed on friday. Yesterday I noticed a popping sound coming from my right speaker. I have the volumn all the way down and the noise is still there. I checked all the connections and they are all good. Do you have any ideas?

I had a similar problem. My right speaker was making a sound like the speaker had blown, but I couldn't see any tears or such in the speaker itself(the actual 2.5" speaker). So, I traded it with the left one. The sound stayed with the right speaker. This time I plugged the system into another sound source. The sound went away. Seems the system didn't like being attached to my laptop, which works fine with every other system I attach it to.

Bose Companion 3 Speakers make a popping noise.

No solution i'm afraid. But i have the exact same problem. Terrible cracking interference. Unplug everything else in the house and they still crackle. Very annoying. Decided to buy a new woofer on ebay as that seemed to be the problem with possible faulty switch, but the new woofer has a different connection for the volume control. Incredibly frustrating. If you have any luck let me know. Bose want eighty quid to repair...

When speakers are connected to the computer, they produce a popping sound every second. However, when headphones are connected to the speakers the sound works fine.

Hi there,
these speakers are quite problematic aren't they!! From the information you have given there is either a problem with the mains trans former or the internal wiring. Neither of which are user serviceable.

Can I hook up the Bose Companion 2 series speakers to my HDTV and get acceptable sound?

Hi,
Well if you currently find the sound of the Bose acceptable and your inbuilt HD TV speakers poor, then the answer is yes. Should you not like the sound of the Bose, plugging them into an HD TV won't make them sound any better :-)

Just use the headphone out of your HD TV to connect. You may find you need to enable the headphone socket/volume via the menu settings on your HD TV

Bose Companion 3. Speakers are very faint in sound. The touch pad seem inoperable. (the green light on pad does not come on.)

Check first that you have connected the speaker to the right output. For example on many computer there is an aux output marked in blue that can give you this problem.

If the problem does not depend from the source, then that sounds like an internal fault on your Bose system.

Leave the Bose unplugged from power and from computer for one hour, to get rid of electrostatic charges accumulated inside capacitors.
If that does not get rid of the problem, then there is an internal fault, either a short on speaker wiring, or a fault on the internal amp circuit board.
