Question about KitchenAid Cooktops
We cannot lift out our KitchenAid built-in glass electric cooktop (with metal heating elements projecting 1/2 inch ABOVE glass surface). Installation instructions (Form 85021 Rev. B) says there are under-counter clamping brackets and adjustment screws, but none are found under our counter. In theory the cooktop should lift out but we cannot make it budge. How can we get the cooktop out without using enough force to crack the glass? FYI, we tried to remove the 12 tiny screws holding the bottom plate, but some won't come out.
You are either:
A) missing the mounting screws and brackets that hold the unit in place
B) it is stuck and will require brute force to remove

alot of installers will use a silicone glue to "seal" the unit to the countertop. what happens is that means you cant get it out without cutting the glue off first.
it could also be that the unit is very tight in the countertop.
also did you remove the "hold down" screws from underneath the unit first??? there should be a screw on each side below the unit.
one more thing... do you have a gas line under your counter? if not be sure you can get a gas line to it before you try to remove the old unit. most homes have a finished ceiling under the kitchen and it would be almost impossible to install a new gas line if its not already there.
