How to dismount KitchenAid cooktop model KECT 365

We cannot remove our KitchenAid KECT 365 electric cooktop from counter to replace its burners. Instruction Sheet (Form 85021 Rev B) shows four mounting brackets and adjustment screws under the counter, but we cannot find either. In theory the cooktop should lift out but it won't budge. We tried to remove the 12 tiny screws holding bottom plate, but some won't move or spin in place. How can we lift out the glass cooktop without using enough force to crack it?

SOURCE: Supporting a ceramic cooktop

Yes. It is. i always feel weary when i see it to however the top is not glass its ceramic so it is a little stronger.if you are in fear wrap tape all the way around the top and tight. if the top is tempered then wrapping the tape around it would make it almost indestructable.

SOURCE: I can not separate the glass cooktop from the granite surface.

alot of installers will use a silicone glue to "seal" the unit to the countertop. what happens is that means you cant get it out without cutting the glue off first.
it could also be that the unit is very tight in the countertop.
also did you remove the "hold down" screws from underneath the unit first??? there should be a screw on each side below the unit.

one more thing... do you have a gas line under your counter? if not be sure you can get a gas line to it before you try to remove the old unit. most homes have a finished ceiling under the kitchen and it would be almost impossible to install a new gas line if its not already there.

Hi,

If it’s a range, there is usually a couple of screws that hold the front of the top down, remove the screws, lift the front of the top and pull it out from the back hinges. Install the new top, make sure there are no loose wiring.
If it’s a cook top then make sure that the power to the cook top has been turned off, open the cabinet and look up. There should be a couple of brackets that secure the cook top. Remove the brackets, carefully lift the top and set it on the counter top (put a towel on the counter top first). replace the glass top (make sure there is no loose or exposed wiring), set the cook top back in the counter, secure it with brackets as was before, and double check your work.

I think that you have to lift the whole cooktop out and the blower assembly is attached to the bottom.

Why not refer this issue directly to KitchenAid. Maybe they can explain the disparity between what the installation sheet shows and what you actually don't see.

To remove the knobs from the cooktop you just pull them off. They are only presser fitted on a post.
