Question about RCA P61960 61" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

Is there a fuse in rca p61960

We had a power failure during a lightening storm. When the power was restored, the tv still had power but no picture or sound. I looked for a reset button around the exterior of the tv,but didn't find one. Someone mentioned that the tv may have a fuse that could be replaced. If someone can help me with this or any other possible solutions,I would appreciate it !

There are soldered in Protection components in the power section. If the power light is on then the standby power circuit is still receiving voltage.
If you are unfamiliar with a meter, electronic components or soldering , then someone who is will be required to accomplish the repair

SOURCE: no picture on my RCA HD52W59

Well, this is a difficult situation. I assume your unit will not power up and this can be several problems in this unit and will most likely require someone with troubleshooting experience. I would suggest finding a repair service that gives free or reasonable estimates if you bring the unit to them and haul it in for the estimate. This unit has chronic failures of the deflection/power bd. as well as the convergence power supply and convergence amp. bds. I have also had several with shorted crts, and shorted ic's on the crt drive bds. so It is impossible to guess.

SOURCE: is there a reset button for 52in rca hd ready rear projection tv?

Most likely there was one or more marginal connections on the main board and moving the set has completely opened those connections. If you can solder, try resoldering any connections on the boards that appear to be grainy or have rings. Update this with the results. That may resolve the problem. If not, we'll look further into the set for component failures.

SOURCE: "52" RCA Scenium DLP; No Picture and the buttons flash on and off

On the back of the TV, you'll find the Access door to your lamp. Unplug the TV from power, and remove the screw on the access panel. Inside you'll find 2 additional screws holding in the lamp housing assembly. Remove the screws, then the lamp assembly and visibly inpect it. You'll know if the lamp is defective, it will have obvious damage. If so replace with part # 260962, you can acquire this lamp for arround 100 dollars off ebay, or 262.00 direct from RCA.

SOURCE: Picture turns on and off

Just found this trying to figure out what was wrong with my same model tv. Since mine was under warantee, I had the repairman troubleshoot it. He changed the lamp and the tv started working normally again.

I didn't understand how the lamp could be bad if it lit up while the tv was on. He said the tube was probably using too much voltage or too little voltage to run, so the tv would turn itself off and on in an attempt to receive the correct voltage from the lamp.

I realize this is 9 months late, but maybe it can help someone else who has this problem. I can't believe there are only 3 rca dlp's out there with this problem.

My HDTV went out in a lightening storm. What could it be?

Is your TV plugged into a surge protector? If not it very well may have gotten a power surge during the lightening storm that fried components in the TV.
Or is the TV connected to a cable box? It could be that the cable box took the hit if it's not plugged into a surge protector.
Or a possibility of both.

Hi, of you have any AV devices connected to the tv, try these to verify the unit will display a picture. if so and you have an aerial caonnected to the tv, then it is entirely possible that the aerial has taken a hit and destroyed the tuner. a TV technician will be able to confirm this for you

It might have been blown out by the lightening storm. that happened to two of my tvs that were plugged in during a lightening storm. they both, and two dvd players, would not work after, but the ones that were not plugged in were fine. You should unplug your major electronic equipment during a storm, unless you have a power surge plug/equipment.
