Hi thanks for your comments and no nothings cheeky when it comes to me and sat navs, I've inserted the SD card plugged in the usb and connected to computer, my computer only shows the Garmin drive and not the sd card? Unless it sits within the garmin folder and is called something else?

I also read the manual and i've tried what it said above, I've also tried going into settings/System etc and putting a tick in the box, however the garmin doesn't recognise the sd card, as my only option was to untick the uk map currently ticked no other option?

    Any help appreciated

Install WebUpdater http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp This will update the garmin's firmware.
- Restart the garmin to complete the install of FW
- Make sure that you have room on your garmin to accept the webupdater and new map... delete unused help, voice and vehicle files. I now only have American English on my Garmin, but if I pick up a new language I can go to webupdater and reinstall those languages I dropped
- Restart the map update.

Hi,
Go to Tools( wrench icon ), settings, maps, map info, box should be there, tick it,
you will need your unit I.D. from, tools, settings, system, about, first.
and your serial number off the sticker, on the bottom of the unit, to activate them.

Let me know to assist you.
Regards
Richard.

    Hi,

Connect the device to the PC, go to my computer, your nuvi and sd card will appear as removable drives in My computer, (( C: is your hard drive usually, D: is usually the disc/DVD drive ))

    So look for other drives

it is a Mounted Volume on an Appe Mac,

edit/copy and then paste the files from the sd folder to nuvi folder

    should be good.

    Regards

    Richard.

    Hi,

These are the only methods I know, from the manual, there are no special tricks I can tell you,

Try to test the SD card in a card reader if you can, to test the card is ok, this is my only solution,

if the card cannot be read on any other device, your card is defective,

Try test it if you can,

Make sure on your Pc, that you have checked

" show all hidden files and folders "

go to Windows explorer, my computer, tools, folder options, view,

    in here you will see

" show hidden files and folders " make sure you tick this circle to check it's not hidden,

have a reboot, just to be sure, try find the SD folder again, in my computer,

it is like any card with data on it, ie: could be pics or music, it should be visable, if not, card has a problem with it.

(( un tick the circle again later, it is important to untick it again )) for accidental deletion of files.

    Hope this helps

    Richard.

Garmin nuvi 200 SD card

Did you rename the file extensions? On the unit, the map file and map unlock file must be named gmapprom.img and gmapprom.unl

On the SD card they must be named gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp.unl.

Also copy your garmindevice.xml file over to the SD card too.

I bought a lifetime update from Garmin a few years ago but now my nuvi 270 tells me that I don't have enough memory to install the latest maps and that I must choose only certain regions. I have an 8Gb...

The internal memory of the nuvi is full. Some maps will need to be delete before any new maps can be added. Typically, the map in the nuvi is named GMAPPROM.IMG and a map installed to an SD (or SDHC) memory card is named GMAPSUPP.IMG.

1) Remove the SD card from the memory slot

2) Connect the nuvi to the computer via USB cable.

3) Open the nuvi drive.

4) Locate and delete the GMAPPROM.IMG (or GSUPPROM.IMG) file(s). Optionally copy (instead of deleting) them to your hard drive in case there is a problem wit the new map file(s).

5) Empty the Recycle Bin.

6) Retry the map update of the nuvi.

This method will take some time to perform depending on how many map segments you are sending to the nuvi. Transferring the entire map can take over an hour. A quicker way is to send the maps to the SDHC card directly by inserting the card into a card reader. This eleminates the slow Garmin card reader from the equation and transfers are done in a fraction of the time. No maps will be on the nuvi - they will all be on the memory card instead. To update the SD or SDHC card, do this:

1) Repeat steps 1 thru 5 above. This removes the maps files from the nuvi.

2) Disconnect the nuvi from the computer.

3) Connect a card reader to the computer.

4) Insert the SD or SDHC card into the reader.

5) Locate and delete the GMAPPROM.IMG (or GSUPPROM.IMG) file(s). Optionally copy (instead of deleting) them to your hard drive in case there is a problem wit the new map file(s).

6) Update the map to the SD or SDHC card.

When either method is employed, only one map file set will result. GMAPPROM.IMG or GMAPSUPP.IMG is the name of this file set. You should ensure / change the name to GMAPPROM.IMG. Any subsequent file set added should be named GMAPSUPP.IMG.

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply - thanks.

Lost the information card

Garmin.com should have anything you need to help you get going. You can download map updates or new maps altogether and save them to an SD card to load onto the device. You should be entitled to one free map update with your new device if you have not taken it yet. You can also download manuals as well; their website is pretty loaded with information and I have had good luck dealing with them.

I need help installing a map onto a gramin sat nav

No. They are refering to maps sent from the computer to the Garmin device. Maps are not transferred off the SD card to the unit. Simply insert the SD card into the device and the Garmin will read the maps from the card.
to double check follow these steps
  1. Power on the unit with the card in
  2. Press Tools
  3. Press Settings
  4. Press Map
  5. Press Info (or map info)
This page should list out both your UK and Ireland maps(old as dirt) and your new Benelux and France maps as well

Garmin nuvi 200w can't update all 49 lower states

OK, I just finally am getting through all of this myself.

First, the bad news. You cannot load all of the lower 49 states onto your Garmin 200W as-is. The map file is over 1GB and the 200W only has 991MBs of memory.

So, go out and get yourself a SD card. I got a 2GB card at OfficeDepot for $8. It was at the counter, not back with the other cards they carry (Note: The speed showed as 60x. The slightly more expensive ones, $12-$15, may be faster, like 150x.)

You'll also need to get yourself MapInstall, available from the Garmin site. BUT, don't try to use this right away, a mistake I made. If you do, you basically get a message that MapInstall can't be installed because it's not already installed. Seriously.

BUT, MapInstall GETS installed, or whatever, when you load your 2010 maps (or partial maps), so after you do your partial install, THEN you can install the MapInstall program. (May not be necessary, but remember, I did this out of order. Look for a "Garmin" folder under your Programs, or All Programs, and see if it's already there after you install your 2010 maps.)

Next, run MapInstall. The next mistake I made was that at the window where it finds your device, I clicked on the NEXT button. DON'T. Notice that your device is shown in a drop-down box. Click on that, and you can select your SD card for the destination.

THEN click NEXT. On my system, it appears as if it shows you what IS already on the 200W, and lets you select whatever you want to add. I put everything else available on the SD card.

I just this minute finished loading "the rest" and checked it out. Works flawlessly. I easily found a seafood restaraunt in Anchorage (Alaska was not loaded in the intitial install.)

Just remember that you have to keep the SD card in the Garmin at all times to use those maps. That really shouldn't be a problem though.

Hope this helps eveyone.

Loading Australian Maps on Nuvi 200

She can purchase the City Navigator Australia DVD and load the Australian maps onto an SD card. Insert this into the unit and she'll then have both S Africa and Australia maps.

WHAT IS SD CARD FOR??

Hello TRICOUNTY,

Your Garmin GPS has an SD card slot. You can use this slot to insert a removeable SD memory card into the unit SD memory cards for used for storage by many portable devices. The most common useage for the GPS is to view pictures taken by a digital camera (which also uses an SD card) with the GPS's picture viewer function.

I am not sure what the ads you are referring to are. Where are you seeing the ads? On the GPS screen? After inserting a SD card into the GPS?

Best Regards,
Ken
