A word of caution. It bothers me that many of sites today try to sell their wares with little or no after-sales service. Many of the unlock codes I've had the misfortune of using needed different firmware versions that were never mentioned beforehand - or worse, simply didn't work at all. I tried on numerous occasions to follow up a dud code derived from a prominent site and to date, had zero response from them. I mention this only because I recently became a member of DVDEXPLODER , a website that actually produced a working code for my JVC HR-HV2! - an unlock I'd been searching for relentlessly. Although the unlock was in fact tricky to implement, the website staff helped me all the way until the player became region free. They're a great bunch of technically minded and friendly people, I assure you. Here's a link to there main page - If you need some serious advice, I'd strongly advise talking to them, as they really know their stuff.
There's a thread on on this board somewhere concerning Ebay DVD code scams that highlights the hit and run attitude of lots of sites. Once you've handed over your cash, you receive a product where 50% of the codes are useless and are laid out by a 10 year old that has difficulties giving simple instructions. Avoid Ebay at all costs, unless all you want is a list of outdated codes backed up with no customer service help by the vendor. And yes, I did give a bad review to the vendor on that occasion.
Just to say, be careful how you handle your DVD player and use a trusted website to make the thing multi-region. I've mentioned a reputable research site here already, let's hope they can keep up the good work.
Please excuse my rant, I've had it up to my here with poor advice and general Internet skulduggery.

If you are in region 1 for DVD's you can't play any other region. You have to buy the right region DVD for the player.

My sylvania dvd player says wrong region when i put n a dvd..but it will play cds

Your cd's may be region free but dvd's unless stated as region free will only play on a player that is capable of playing the region shown on the dvd unless you have a region free dvd player.

Why wont my philips play a normal dvd any more/ but it plays copys and cds ?

It could be that the DVD's that you are referring is the original ones and those that do not play can be due to a region lock.
You can check with your philips dealer to unlock the player to your region .
there are sites that offer help and can be tried.

My dvd player dv388 does not play the cds and video cds it used to play earlier but it plays dvds. what could be the problem?

if it played them before then it is not a region problem as some cds and dvds are in different regions i feel you may have changed the setting in the menu try and reset the dvd player it might have a master reset and take it back to the way it was when first bought but give that a go and see how it goes

I want to play Dvd's from Europe so I want a region code free.

1. Power ON the main unit (some unlocks work with, some with no disc inside)
2. Press the SETUP button (on the top of the player) to open the setup menu
3. Navigate to the PREFER menu using the button below the screen

(NEXT> and PREVIOUS are on the top of the player next to the SETUP button. Don't use the menu navigation buttons below the screen for this.)

5. The current Region of the player should be displayed on the screen

6. Use the menu navigation UP/DOWN buttons (below the screen) to change the region. Region 0 is region-free.

7. Press PLAY/OK (below the screen) to confirm the region selection

The player should now be unlocked and able to play discs from all regions - it worked on my PD9012/37 that was region 1

Please note: Unlocking a DVD player may invalidate the warranty and some DVD players have been damaged through failed attempts to unlock them. Unlocking the DVD player is attempted at your own risk.

My psp will not play and movies or play games screen is dark

have you tried adjusting the brightness of the screen on your psp by using the display button to toggle if it is dark or light? if so the problem is either coming from your lens or the cds you are trying to play.
playstation console usually have regional codes that determines the kind of cds they play. for example a region 2 psp might not play a region 1 cd and so on. what you do is to check the region of your psp by reading through the manual and you would see the regional cds it accepts.
also make sure the cds are in good condition as that could also affect the game. if all the above refuses to work, it could be that you need a software update which you can do by going through your manual too. if all refuses, your lens is probably bad and needs replacement.
hope this helped you? please rate

I have a Toshiba DVD player SD290EKB and would like to play Region 2 discs. How can I change region.

Toshiba SD290EKB

When i bought this it said multi-region but its not. To unlock it to play all regions turn on the dvd player open the disc tray and then enter 98790. It will now change to region 0 making it able to watch all regions.
Hope that helps.

My playstation 3 doesn't read any games but i can watch movies and play cds on my playstation 3

the games you are trying to play are not the same region as your console.go through your console manual and you would see the region code it is able to play and cros0chec if it matched the region number on the disc.
