First thing to do is figure out if the problem is with the fluidmaster or with the shutoff valve. If the water doesn't run at all after flushing, then instead of cycling the shutoff valve, just loosen the nut where the supply tube attaches to the fluidmaster (under the tank). If the problem is in the fluidmaster, it will start to squirt out at you, otherwise it won't. Then you know what to disassemble and attempt to repair, or replace.

please make sure the water is off!
the fluid master has a slip ring at the bottom of the float base it pulls up then you can adjust the float up or, down and, snap it back down.
at the top of the float you will see a cross-headed plastic bolt; this is adjusted for fine level control using a large conventional philips screwdriver.

Have you recently replaced the fill valve and flapper ?If so make sure they are interchagable and can produce close to the same GPF as original hardware.Fluidmaster has a tall tube that can be cut according to tank depth to accomidate water volume in tanksome times a little more water volume will do the trick. Also make sure flapper is staying open long enough to produce the required results.

you did it just fine. the reason the water goes straight down is its a water saver, it uses less water to flush. have a good day !! mine works the same way.

Hi dona way,
There are 2 things that can be adjusted to stop the toilet from running. It will keep running as long as the water level does not maintain itself.
First, is the valve at the exit hole in the tank seated completely. You may have to adjust the chain, or make sure the chain doesn't hangup so the valve seats well. Did you clean the opening well before putting the valve on? If there is calcium build up, you may have to sand the opening a bit to give a nice smooth level surface.
Second, Is the water running because the float is set too high and the tank fills past the overflow pipe opening. This also can be adjusted. The instructions that came with the kit should explain how to do this.
I hope this helps. If it does, please place a vote for me. Thanks,
