same problem" disc unknown" with discs dvd-r that were previously recorded on this model (i have 2 lg rh177 both doing with same prob) With dvd-rw after recording on lg rh177 i finalized ..... to play in diff dvd player but it would not play just kept showing "bad disc" but when i put it back in lg rh177 it would not play "unknown disc" again so i had to unfinalize to get it to play the original movie in the rh177..i also have a sony gx3 thats 6 years old and it works great so why all this prob with lg..It seems that as long as you dont finalize it will play recorded discs but only in the same machine..or model...

Unknown disc on any DVD, played OK yesterday & Saturday. But now nothing, this seems to be a common fault.

Could be a timing issue with the tray mechanism - possible that somebody has given the tray "a shove" to make it close instead of using the open/close button and has put the timing out.or a worn tray loading belt

I have had the same problem a few times. All I do is eject and re-insert the disk until it recognises it, this seemed to work for me

Hi there. You need to "finalise" the dvd before you can view it.

LG RH277H - won't play bought DVD'S

The cd tray eject after put in the DVD movies, but VCD working fine...it is means that the drive's region code haven't set yet .(please refer to user manual to setting the region code) ..or unplug the recorder drive from the dvd player, using the computer setting to change the region code by connecting to computer's IDE cable .

Lg rh177

Could be the dvd player/lens. The player sucks up dust through the
player's caddy and after a while it won't read discs anymore.
A cd cleaner or a good (gently dosed) blow with compressed air might help.

Dvd "unknown disc" message coming up

Have you tryed to use a lens cleaning disc yet. The laser lens on these players and recorders alike, must have the lens cleaned every oince in awhile. If that does not help, most likly you have a bad laser pickup assembly and you will need to replace the plaer as to have that repaiered, you could buy a new unit. Good Luck
