Question about Jenn-Air JCD2389G Side by Side Refrigerator

Continously running without stopping

Continously running; developing a lot of frost in the freezer cabin; notice some build-up of frost against back wall of freezer; food items extremely hard in freezer; i lowered the temp in freezer portion only, but still continously running and i also notice air not really blowing into fridge portion like it normally does...

I have a Samsung double door refrigerater with bottom freezer.The freezer has developed a problem. I noticed there is a frost build up. What might be the possible cause?


Most frostless freezer build up due to door no close completely closed, leak seal, leave it open too long.
-Try this:
-Remove all the inside stuffs then unplug or turn it off, open all door for 4-6 hours then clean and dry and plug back in
it will last for a while.

Hotpoint Future fridge freezer - freezer working well but top of the back of the fridge has a large build up of ice ??? And doesn't appear to be keeping the food cold enough


here are lots of things that can cause cooling problems. One of the most common causes of poor cooling in a frost free refrigerator is a defrost system failure. In such a case one or the other compartment may appear to be keeping proper temperature but that too may change in a short period of time. The fridge compartment's temperature rise is usually (but not always) the first to be noticed. Frost" and "Ice"
There is a difference between "frost" (a white, snow-like substance) and "ice" (usually clear and solid). When referring to what is seen during an inspection, please keep this distinction in mind as the possible causes for each are often very different. The Defrost System
Inspecting the (usually rear) wall of the freezer compartment for a frost build up is necessary. (In the case of many GE top freezer models, check the freezer's bottom panel.) If there is a frost coating on it, it is often a sign of excessive frosting beneath it. Sometimes however the evaporator cover panel will actually need to be removed (see the illustration below) before an excessive frost build will visible.
The refrigeration system's evaporator (cooling) coil is usually in the freezer compartment. This evaporator will periodically frost over and have to be defrosted by means of a heating system. When the defrost heating system fails, the frost can accumulate to such a degree that airflow throughout the appliance is hampered. There may be just enough air circulation to cool the freezer section but that will eventually stop too.

The contents of the refrigerator freeze even on low settings


One of the most common problems with freezers is their tendency to build up a thick level of frost and ice that can disrupt performance. The ice can form on the hoses and cause the fan to freeze up. While you want the freezer to be cold, too much ice is not good for the freezer or the food inside it. There are multiple reasons a freezer could start to develop frost buildup.

Freezer Overstocked
Frost can build up in the freezer if there are too many items inside of it. Air cannot properly circulate around the freezer, so the areas with the sitting cold air can freeze the moisture. Frost continues to build up and accumulate, which then allows it to spread. If food is stocked up near the fan, cold air can't get past it, and the fan itself could develop frost to the point where it freezes and stops working entirely. This can be prevented by not overstocking the freezer and by evenly distributing food throughout.

Temperature Setting Too Low
The freezer should have a thermostat that regulates how cold it gets. If the temperature is set at too low of a setting, the freezer kicks into high gear, the air freezes outright and frost quickly builds up. Adjusting the thermostat to a higher temperature or level can counteract this problem, but you may need to de-thaw the freezer to eliminate the frost that has already built up inside.

Keeping the Fridge Door Open
Many people keep their fridge door open for extended periods of time while they examine the contents inside to see what they want to eat. This can contribute to frost buildup in the freezer, because the fridge is taking in a lot of warm air during this process and the fan pushes it up into the freezer. The moisture in that air is then quickly frozen, and ice can build up substantially as a result. The longer the fridge door is held open, the more likely this can occur, so the best solution is to only keep the fridge open for short intervals and then to not open the door again for a while.

I have a GE GSL25JFPBS side by side. Freezer works okay, but refrigerator does not. Coils in rear of freezer are frosted toward the bottom of the coils. I shut down the freezer, removed frost, blew out...


You wake up in the morning and go to the refrigerator to get some breakfast. When you get out the milk, juice or whatever it is you get for breakfast, you notice something is wrong. It's not cold! The next thing you do is open up the freezer and see if that is still working properly. Wheeew it is. But why?
What you probably didn't notice was that the freezer has not been going through it's normal defrost cycle. Because of this un-noticed event going on, there has been frost building up on the evaporator coils that doesn't belong there. After this frost continues to build up over the course of a few days to a week or so, now you are going to start to notice the effects.

Here is what's happening when you have a malfunction in the defrost system.
  • Air cannot circulate from the freezer(where the cold happens basically) to the fresh food section.
  • Your refrigerator will run constantly to try to cool the fresh food section. This will develop a new set of problems with your refrigerator. More on that later....
  • Excess frost builds up within the coils inside the freezer. This is what is blocking the air flow to the fresh food section
  • Usually you will notice the icemaker will stop making ice. Poor air flow and not quite cold enough temperatures in the freezer cause this
  • Water will not come through the dispenser on the door. Cold air settles, the water resovoir will freeze.
  • Compressor may overheat and shut off. This is when you hear, click, click, click. Not good
  • Ice Cream in the Freezer will start to get soft. That's really not that bad. lol
What can you do about this. Let me explain the defrost system in general so you get an understanding of what is going on.
The coils inside the freezer are the only part inside the whole refrigerator that "get cold". They need to stay free from excess frost build up so that air can pass through the coils and reach the refrigerator section of your refrigerator. Every eight hours or so, depending on the type of defrost timer or control you have, the compressor and fans will shut off and the machine will go into defrost mode.When the refrigerator is in defrost there is a heater that is tied into the evaporator coils inside the freezer that comes on. This heater is behind the rear panel inside the freezer where the evaporator coils are located. It melts the frost that has accumulated over the course of time. After about thirty minutes the machine comes out of defrost and goes back to normal operation.
Now the air can continue to pass through the coils and keep the freezer frozen and the refrigerator cool and everybody is happy. you have to be able to do a continuity test on the defrost therrmostat as well as the defrost heater 79 precent of the time it is the thermostat that is defective if you receive both postive results after testing both of these and they both passed your continuity test then you would look at the defrost timer or in some models the board on the back side under the panel of the fridge if you have any further questions message me back and please remember when this chat has concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation so that i may continue to help people like yourself in the future with similar situations Thanks again Rick

6343ed3.jpg The problem is ice build up on the back wall. The noise you hear is the fan blades hitting the ice. On the back wall water gets trapped, it then builds up over time, and a big ball of ice forms and blocks the fan. Take off the back wall, defrost the build up and cut the insulation off as above. The water will no longer get trapped and the problem will not come back.

Whirlpool top freezer problem


Check for frost build-up behind back wall in freezer. If there is a heavy frost build-up, it's not defrosting. This will restrict airflow to refigerator section and can stop fan. If fan is stuck again and it's not because of frost, replace evaporator fan motor.
