Setting a Channel

Your radio has 22 channels. Channels 1-7 and 15-22 are 1 watt. Channels 8-14 are

0.5 watt. When the radio is on a 1 watt channel, displays. When the radio is on

a 0.5 watt channel, displays.

1. With the radio on, press . The current channel flashes.

2. Press or to set the channel.

3. Press to save the channel setting. You have a pretty straight forward Low wattage FM Walki/Talki

I would have them returned or replaced.

If you can not transmitt on one to the other

FM channel set at 88.5, too noisy, need to change the channel to a quieter channel

Use the FM extender kit to improve the signal. You can change the channel by holding down the cassette icon to enter the menu, then going to FM options (I think it's under settings)

What or how do I install my Skyfi2 in my car without a tape deck?

Do you have a newer one (red and yellow box) or an older one (bubble box or white box?). If it says 'direct connect' in a reddish box it has a really cruddy FM modulator, if it is an older model from the clear plastic bubble box or white box, it has a really, really strong FM transmitter in it (so strong, the FCC outlawed it) and you can use it to transmit to an empty FM channel (within 50 feet of your radio!) So my answer is, simply go to the 'MENU" and under "FM Frequency" select an empty channel in your area, like 107.3MHZ and then set your car radio to 107.3 FM and it will come thru. You can also adjust the "Audio Level" in the MENU to make it even louder. Should work real well, Just check at the very ends of the FM band for channels first and try to set it 2 channels away from an active channel, so if you have a station on 106.5, you want to be on 106.9 or higher, etc.. Okay?

Please explain a 10 meter am/fm radio

Okay.

You do set this up like a regular CB. The meters refers to how long the waves are. CB is 11 meters. So its very close. The antenna woud be tuneds slightly shorter. Use the SWR meter in the radio to calibrate just like you would a normal cb.

Now for the ABCDEF knob. each letter is 40 channels in the band. So A would be 1 - 40 channels, then B would be the next 1 - 40 channel frequencies. You use the frequency counter in the radio(providing that model has one) to tell what channel you are on.

Here is some info one the frequencies in the band.

Now for AM and FM. this is the type of modulation you are using for transmit and receive.

CB transmits on AM or SSB. Amplitude modulation or Single side band. Most CB radios only have AM. But some also have SSB. None will have FM.

FM is frequency modulation.

10 meter radios can have AM FM SSB and DSB depending on the model and options it comes with.

So your radio has 6 ranges for freqency. each is 40 or 50 channesl. Not sure what model you have. If it has 40 then you have 240 channel freqencies.

with AM and FM, you double that, because you can talk on AM or FM on all the channels. If you are on AM and some one transmits on FM unless they are really close, you will not hear them at all, but if you do with will just be garbbled noise.

Also Am and FM both work a little different with range etc.

Now, you may be able to talk on the CB channels as well. Cb starts at 26.965 MHz and ends at 27.405 MHz. The channels are all .010 MHz appart.

Hope this helps

Only in certain areas and passing vehicals cause interferance

I'm assuming your using a RF unit (radio frequency). Whether this unit inserts in the antennea line or is simply broadcasting an FM signal via it's own antennea, it is still transmitting a low power FM signal. The idea here is to find an unused FM channel in your area, set your radio to that channel and program the Sony RF unit to use that channel. The signal the Sony RF unit is transmitting is low power due to FCC regulations and to minimize the possible interference you could cause to someone else's FM listening.

You are likely using an FM channel that is being overpowered by a real FM radio station. This is usually solveable if you only travel in your town by picking an empty FM channel. If you travel alot, the channel in your town that is empty may not be the case when you travel 50 miles away. That's just part of the problem inherent when using radio frequencies to get your music into your radio. You have to be willing to deal with it.

As far as passing vehicles, I'm going to assume that the vehicles that are interfering with your radio are doing the same thing you are doing, they are using FM radio frequencies to pump music into their radios and they are using an FM frequency close to or the same as the one you are using. Since having an unused channel on the FM band is pretty rare these days, if there is one, you can bet everyone is trying to use it for their own purposes since it is "quiet", until you come around!

Do you need the car radio on a certain channel?

Yes, you need to go to your menu and select an FM channel (that isn't being used in your area) and set that in the radio. Turn your radio off using the power switch, wait, then turn it back on and you should be 'transmitting' on that FM channel now.

Sony CDX-SW200 AM/FM/CD unit

I'm not completely certain about yours, but on most Sony decks you can get to a manual tuning mode by pressing and holding the seek buttons. In other words, if you press and release the tuning button, it will automatically jump to the next channel. If you press and hold the button for a second, it should beep and possibly start flashing an "M" on the screen. After that, it should stop scanning when you release the button, without jumping to the next station.
