Question about NetGear : WG111 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter, RETAIL (DSNGWG111)

Netgear WG111 usb 2.0 adapter lossing connection

Hot wire modem to PC and instantly get Google front page, then connect Wg111 everything ok so far. Disconnect hot wiring and place modem downstairs next to power and telephone line and re-connect, everything still ok. Can use internet with no problems at all, the problem only happens when I shut down the PC, when I boot up the next day it cannot connect to the internet, but there is no cross through the internet connection icon in the bottom tray, and the lights on the modem are all green, also the light on the adapter (blue) flickers all the time as if it was receiving data. Could you please try help, before I tear out more hair. Thanks David Henderson.

You need to set your ip addresses on your computer this is done by clicking start - my network places - on left view network connections - right click on wireless for wireless and on normal lan for lan - click properties scroll down to tcp ip sttings - right click - click properties - click use the following ip address - type  - click sub mask it will auto fill then default gateway needs to be  - then click use the following dns server and type click ok and your done for every computer you add to the network you have to change the last digit of the ip address such as 2 then 3 then 4 this only applies to netgear routers
