SOURCE: husqvarna chain saw oiler

My Husky 36 did this. The oil pump drive gear was stripped and had to be replace. It's located under the flywheel/sprocket so you have to pull that. I couldn't find info on how to do that so had a local shop repair it for $70! Parts are cheap, labor is not.

SOURCE: if the chain is too loose on a stiga SP 510 how do you tighten it

When you give it throttle- does it rev up or bog down?

If it revs up:
Then you have a broken clutch, they are replaceable and some handy people have even repaired them in a pinch, replace it or find a handy person.

If it bogs down or dies:
:The chain brake is on (wrist guard handle forward) grasp and **** back to reset.
:The chain is installed improperly-believe it or not many people have installed their chain by inadvertently routing it over the anti-backlash bracket, reinstall properly.
:The chain is fitting to tight in bar due to lack of oiling and/or over heating you will need to replace bar.

How to stop flow of oil on to chain?

Interesting.
Chain lubrication
is critical to the life of the bar and chain.
I'd be suspicious that you may not be using heavy viscosity chain lubrication oil.
Light weight oil will flow much faster.

How do I make sure chain oils lubricating chain

You must start your chainsaw and hold the guide bar about 3 to 5cm from the ground and give it full revs. If you touch the surface, you can start sharpening again. While on full revs, a line of oil should show on the surface. If not, clean the guide bar and the hole where the oil should enter to lubricate the guide bar and make sure there are no blockages.

Lost operating and maintenance instructions. Need to know how much oil to put into the self lubricating chain reservoir and where it feeds the chain to make sure there isn't a blockage anywhere.

You are free to charge to the top if you think right to use a chainsaw. It is essential that the oil is clean. If you accidentally charge too much (full hopper) it is good the rest of oil put back in the oil bottle or to extend on the chain. It is important that it is not oil-free and should be cleaned around the chain for good lubrication.

take off the chain and bar remove the plate and you should see a small hole where the oil comes through to lubricate the chain its probably blocked with dirt, try blowing in it with an airline gun

Hi,

Are you using the correct viscosity oil? - It is quite important that the oil is not too thick to freely flow. I am assuming that you are pushing down on the oil tank actuator cap to try and get the chain lubricated? (This is a manual process and does not lubricate the chain automatically on this saw)

Failing that, it sounds like there could be a blockage internally within the oil tank that needs to be cleared.

If this is the case, the user manual (http://dl.owneriq.net/5/5050c27f-7f11-43a6-9bb9-0d77109d285c.pdf) suggests contacting a repair centre.

You could always try removing the bar and chain and carefully working a small piece of wire into the lubricant holes to try and free any clogged up oil.

If this helps, please leave feedback - if not, let me know and I'll try and help some more!

chain is too tight on the bar or is lacking lubrication oil. loosen up the bar nuts and back off the chain tensioning screw a touch. make sure the bar oil reservoir is full and the chain is receiving oil when its running.

Are you using any oil in the oil resivour? The oil lubricates the chain on the bar. I would guess that you installed the chain backwards. If the chain moves freely on the bar it is getting lubrication. I have made that mistake before. check rotation and your new chain. Don't know what brand of chain saw you have, automatic oiler, manual oiler, ect. but would guess that the problem is with the chain itself. Hope it as simple as that.

Sounds like th clutch brake is engaged. Try Pushing firmly foward on the hand guard in front of the handle. It should click to release the clutch brake.
Let me know if this helps.
