as i mentioned i had tried to secure my connection going into common link for modems http:\\192.168.1.1\

and setting a WEP key over there , saving it and restating my connection, but after few days i find my connections unsecured.
what should i do for making it properly secured ????/

also i find my net slower that it used to be earlier so i think that someone other than me is connected to my connection .......

how could i determine this ????

and also if you havent done so change the fault password to the router. you can do a DHCP lookup and see what mac addresses are allocated. You can filter the mac address from mac address blocking. Also PP networks that autostart when windows boots up maybe an issue also. QOS may have given Kaazza, Bearshare, Utorrent exclusive bandwith allocation. After you get the list of computers from the DHCP host list. go to each computer and open a CMD prompt (Start, Run, CMD enter) type this netstat and hit enter. this will tell you who is connected to the individual computer.

did you set a password to the unit? If so Can you get into the router?

We need to look at the encryption for the wireless and is it set to WEP?

If initially the Win XP laptop was connected to internet at the cable/dsl modem, its MAC address would have been registered on service setup. If the router is now in place between the Win XP laptop and the cable/dsl modem, you would need to go on the Win XP laptop and log into the router as admin to clone the Win XP laptop's MAC address to the dlink router's WAN interface (internet facing side) so that the cable/dsl modem will see the previously registered MAC address and will enable the internet access.

Please refer to the User Manual for the HP Mini Netbook, located here:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01657997.pdf

Specifically, take a look at page 25, "Connecting to a wireless network". At the bottom of this page, if you are seeing the icon listed as Wireless (disconnected), this means the wireless switch on your Mini is turned off. To turn it back on, find the small slider button on the front of your Mini with the wireless antenna icon next to it, and slide it. This should activate your wireless card, and if you have a wireless network in range it should identify it shortly after.

If your wireless card is already on, and it cannot find your wireless network signal, you can try either (1) restarting your router, or (2) visit the HP Support page for the Mini 1115NR, select your version of Windows installed on the Mini, then download and install the latest wireless networking drivers.

I got a Netbook, I have been using wireless internet in my home for years but cannot connect to internet with new computer.

In order to connect with the wireless router u need to scan for the available wireless networks in the range .

So if u r using Win XP ,
1. Rightclick on the wireless network connection.
2. U will see view available wireless networks..
3. u will see ur network name
4. enter ur security key
5. Connect

Or if u r using win vista :
1. click on start
2. Connect to wireless network.
3. u will see ur network name
4. enter ur security key
5. Connect

In case u need further help , feel free to get in touch .

Open network connections and disable your wireless connection (right click) then renable it and try to connect. What program are you using to manage your wireless connection?
If you are using your manufaturers software then try using windows xp (or vice versa)

Wireless internet connection

I may be able to help with this...but I need a detailed description of how you have things connected between the XP desktop, the cable, modem, the Linksys router, and the laptop. Also, is the Linksys router new?

Typically, the wan port on the wireless router connects directly to the cable modem with a cat5 network cable....then the desktop pc connects to the router...on port 1 for example...with a similar cable. Once the wireless router is set up properly, the laptop should then be able to connect using wireless.
