Question about Electrical Supplies

1 Answer

Hi, I have a 25 mile range Parmak solar pak 6 fence charger. When I test the lines it reads .02 and I noticed that the energizer unit itself is energized. I tested the unit and it reads between 3.8 to 4.6. When I disconnect the hot wire from the fence, the unit is no longer energized. When I test the voltage straight from the posts, it reads 8.1. Is it also supposed to read the voltage by just touching the hot wire post without a ground?

Any point you measure has to be compared to a reference. This can not be accomplished by just touching one spot....it must be compared to something. Do I make sense the way I explain this?
Hope this helps! Good luck

SOURCE: I bought a Parmak Solar Pak 6. I wanted to use it

The Parmak Solar 6, though they claim is more, is less then 1/2 a joule of output power. Even if you maintain enough voltage to shock the bears there is not enough power behind that voltage to hurt them. In our experience, you need at least 5 joules to really stop bears.

I have a paramark solar charged fence model number df-sp-li it dosen't click anymore how come? Is the click important

The click is the transformer carrying current. If the unit doesn't click, unhook the fence from it and turn it on. If it starts clicking it is a short on the fence. If it doesn't then the unit is not working. contact parmak and they can service it or sell you a replacement circuit board which is the most common failure.

No charge, is it battery or solar panel, how do I tell

if the unit is not produceing a charge during daylight then it is the unit. the DF-SP-LI will produce full power under sunlight alone. test the unit with the fence unhooked.

C lightening hit my mark 7 fence charger is it worth repairing

If lightning hit the unit itself then it more then likely destroyed any electrical components inside the unit. I would say get a new one and dont even bother repairing it.

Need battery

We have one of these, it's great.

See these links:

I would try removing the battery and charging it with a proper low-amperage charger (1 amp). Your battery will either be 6 volt or 12 volt, just be sure the charger matches.

Also check the ground rod and all wiring connections.

when you touch the wire, you are probably wearing shoes, which ground you,
touching it barefoot or kneeling on bare knees should provide a bit more jolt.
take your multi-meter, shove one probe in the ground and touch the wire with the other and you should get a nice reading

We have 2.2 miles of fence, the charger is good for 30 miles. We have a 8 ft ground rod by the charger. the fence is a continues loop. positive wire to fence, negative to ground. meter on the charger says it...

You have got to make sure there are no weeds or brush at all touching the hot wire. Nothing can touch it or it pulls the voltage level way down. Do a full inspection of line.
