Question about IBM ThinkPad T42 Notebook

Sound from the laptop when docked, need to go to external speakers

Have a IBM Thinkpad T42. When I attach to the Dock it does not support the external speakers. The sound keeps coming from the thinkpad. I tried conecting the speakers directly to the thinkpad, and the sound went to the speakers. I also tried to change the settings in the advance tab of the speakers section for sound, still nothing. Is there something else I can do?

IBM ThinkPad T40, when connected to docking station the laptop will randomly stop working with USB connected items like mouse, keyboard, printer all connected to USB ports on docking station.

Try a power adapter with more amperage. When you connect a dock, the 3 amp adapter that comes with IBM laptops will not have enough power for lots of add-ons. You'll need the 4 amp adapter.

Very weak sound from ibm t42 thinkpad - internal and exteranl speakers

There are two ways to set the sound on an IBM thinkpad, hardware and software.
Hardware sound can be set via the speaker buttons below the screen. There should be three buttons: Mute, Volume Down, and Volume Up.
Software sound can be set in windows through the speaker icon on the bottom right of the screen. Click on the icon, and drag the slider up or down to change the volume.
If you don't have the correct drivers installed, these two settings are separate (e.g. It is possible to have the hardware volume down low, and the software volume set really high, and still have music playing relatively quietly). I would suggest turning both of them up and see if the sound gets louder.

IMB T42 Laptop Sound card quality is really poor what up grades

It's probably _not_ the soundcard (chipset), but the teeny little
crummy speakers built into the T42. On a thin, light laptop the manufacturers have to make some compromises, and one of them is that they give you miniature speakers that aren't much good for music reproduction.

The fix: either uses earphones or plug in external speakers into
the earphone jack. You can get pretty good, pretty cheap external speakers that give you fine sound.

Thinkpad Dock station 2 won't charge docked laptop.

Most likely cause over on your part would be a bad connection from the dock to you. I am not an expert on laptop docks, but try to check that all the cables are nice and secure. Also, check that there is no stray objects in the connections. If all else fails, you may have a bad dock station.
