Yamaha c50tlry stalls (2000)

My 2000 Yamaha c50 tlry stalls. It will run for about 3 minutes then stalls. Carburetors have been cleaned by a boat mechanic and even he is stumped as to why it keeps stalling. Electrothermal switch has been tested, it is working.

If the thermal switch is working it could indicate the motor is overheating check to make sure the water pump is operating correctly and the intake is not clogged. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: cant get choke to operate on C50TLRY 2000 50 hp 2

Check choke itself to make sure it moves freely. Adjust the cable and spring if necessary. If the choke is controlled by a vacuum controlled actuator, make sure it is not leaking or loose pressure

Check the torque on the head bolts. I can't tell you what it is, been a long time. If they are good, run it till it dies. Then check for spark at the plugs or coil/s. No spark replace the coil/s. My guess would be coils. But I have seen the head loosen up.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle speed improperly adjusted.
2. Air fuel mixture screws not properly adjusted.
3. Inlet system air leak.
4. Leaking accelerator pump.
5. Loose low-speed jet.
6. Plugged low-speed jet.
7. Contaminated or plugged low-speed circuit.
8. Enrichner valve/choke not seated or leaking.
9. Multi carburetors out of sync and need to be balanced.

The problem is most likely clogged idle jets. The solution would be to mix some additive, like B12 or Sea Foam, with your gasoline and go for a ride. You want to make sure you ride enough to get the gas into your carburetors. While riding, the additive will clean your carbs, but when you park the bike with the engine off is when it will start soaking into your idle jets. Depending on how clogged they are, it may take a while. The alternative is to remove the carbs, and clean the idle jets. I would try a couple of ounces of cleaner per gallon of gas and then ride it around and see how it works. It has worked for me 3 out of 4 times. Good luck!

if it sat for 4 years with gas in the carburetors you will have to clean them--that goo in them will keep breaking up and stop up everything.
